Repstock Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 This is a project I've decided to do to take a break from my Clark gas station project. Back in the 70s I measured and made drawings of some U-Haul equipment. Now, decades later, I'm going to build one and possibly more, with diorama possibilities in mind. I mastered this F-600 cab for a well known caster. I'm going to use one of the copies he gave me for the cab. This unit will have a (scale) 212 inch wheelbase. This truck is going to show some wear and tear, but clearly still be in use. I used doll house hinges between layers of plastic to make the working rear door. I could not find an existing box that was correct, so this one will be scratchbuilt from .060 styrene. I have purchased 1000 .025 rivets (from Tichy Train group), and once the box body is ready, I'll be applying hundreds of rivets. I hope this project is of interest to you, and perhaps helpful to some. I will update as I get more done.

I bought a boxful off ebay some time ago. There were about 150 of them. they're loose, so there's no manufacturer or number I can give you.

My dad work for uhaul and would bring home at time books they made up for each truck, it was a break down of the entire box and chassis and i think some of the truck, and it had diagrams and pics .

Contact Missing Link resin. They can help you out. They also appear on eBay from time to time as an F-700. I think most of the sales are on eBay, but I'm sure they would sell directly. You get the cab, hood, grille, cab steps, and the correct dash. These medium duty trucks used the dash from the PREVIOUS generation pickup. Since this generation Ford pickup hasn't been done yet, I made a dash.

Have you tried the Archer Transfers 3D rivet decals yet? MUCH easier than placing them one by one! I recently mastered a 110" Peterbilt cab and added the rivet detail that was lost doing body work as well as correcting the rivet patterns. You can see how they look here http://www.public.fotki.com/lotso/ Look in the album titled "Some Cab Masters". Micromark recently started offering these 3D rivet decals as well and you get more per sheet than the Archer Transfers but Micromark only offers two sizes from what I've seen. Can't wait to see more progress on this truck!!!!! I was thinking of ordering that resin F700 when I saw it on Ebay. Now, knowing that you mastered it, I'll be getting one for sure!!!!!!!!! Thanks for the welcome! It's SO easy to post pictures here, and I like the idea of keeping everything in the same thread as I progress. Those Archer rivets look pretty good. When I exhaust my current supply of styrene rivets, I'll have to look into those. I find your work (and albums) to be quite impressive. I'll have to consult with you as my building skills are more advanced than my knowledge of trucks in general.
