LDO Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Yeah, I know. It's like a soap opera gone haywire, but I do like the old buildoff shows. My vote goes to Jesse James. Like he said- he built a bike that could be ridden. Paul Jr's bike looks wildly impractical; more like an art piece that sits on a shelf. I also think that theme bikes are just silly. Paul Sr's "vehicle" is even more impractical.
Chuck Most Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 I'd have to agree with your verdict. Senior isn't even trying anymore, and Junior often doesn't know when to quit with the 'theme'. I do think none of them would have gotten anywhere without Discovery Channel, but even so, James is a pretty good builder, and his bike was a pretty good example of what he's capable of. I just wonder why he cheated on Sandra Bullock with Frankenstien...
highway Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Lee, I have to agree, I personally like Jesse's bike better than either Paul Jr.'s or Paul Sr.'s, and that is coming from a long time (since the first episode in fact) viewer of "American Chopper". I even have quite a few of the 1/18 scale diecast kits that were put out of the bikes. I do like Paul Jr,'s bike over the "machine" of OCC and Paul Sr., but I think that is mostly because I like Paulie's design sense and the fact that I think that "machine" of Paul Sr.'s just looks like a toy more than a bike.
B-dub Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 I can't stand jesse james his bike was just generic.. nothing special at all about it.. Sr. didn't even build a bike.. I mean seriously... a tracked laydown wheelchair with flamethrowers... It is neat.. but didn't even fit in... Not crazy about Jr.s theme choice.. just didn't look that great in bike form with all the flash.. needed some paint but I have to say I like the way he carried the theme through the bike and the build of it.. I have to go with him.
Chuck Most Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 probably because that's the type of woman that he likes. Kat Von D? Yeah- that I get. But Skeletor? Huh-uh.
gray07 Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 I like paul jr. bike the best, never have liked jesse, his bike looks like everybodys else on the street, i give him credit he did build the frame.
TurboKitty Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 (edited) Jesse builds everything on his bikes with the exception of the engines, which IIRC he gets from Harley. The Teutels (or whatever their last name is) get their motors, tanks, fenders, wheels, and frames from outside vendors and they just put it all together and tweak it a bit to go with whatever lame theme the bike is. Jesse James all the way, the man's a master welder and frankly I couldn't care less about what he does with his personal life, it doesn't matter it's not my business, but his bikes are wicked. Especially the El Diablo Sturgis Special, (love the bat wing rims): Edited December 6, 2011 by TurboKitty
LDO Posted December 6, 2011 Author Posted December 6, 2011 Yeah I'm not wild about all the profanity and I don't really care about his personal life either. The man can build nice bikes, though. I love that curved down tube with holes through it. A much better style element than exhaust stacks in a fuel tank.

Michelle, with all respect, both OCC and Paul Jr. do build many of the pieces like fenders and tanks. A prime example for OCC is Rick, he has fabricated many tanks from scratch and the tank used on Paul Jr.'s build off bike was also made from scratch. I don't think exhaust coming through the tank is a standard tank! Now on the other hand, there have been a fair share of bikes, mainly from OCC, that I've seen them take an "off the shelf" piece and modify, but they do fabricate pieces to change them into a sort of unique piece. I also purposely left out the wheels and frames because if I remember, OCC has built a couple of their frames, and made in house wheels a time or two, but I'd be willing to bet Jesse has bought wheels and frames for other projects also. No matter the quality of the builder, those pieces are more than likely bought, but it was nice to see this project meant enough to Jesse for him to build it ground up. It was nice to see pieces of steel turn into a beautiful machine! By the way, if anyone wants to see some very nice pics of either bike or that "thing", go to http://dsc.discovery.com/tv/american-chopper/chopper-live/ , and don't forget to vote early and often for Jesse!!
RodneyBad Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Outside of Jesses personal life, I prefer his bikes. If it don't make it go faster or stop quicker, ya don't need it!!
Chuck Most Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 The Jesse James bike may not be the most original, but the PJD bike just does not work for me, from a styling POV. Plain and simple. I'd rather stick with a tried-and-true design that actually looks good rather than one that tries to be groundbreaking but just looks terrible. The OCC bike is just a joke.
RodneyBad Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 I'm sorry, Mikey couldn't build a bicycle, O Lord, I'm Sorry. (not really) That's why I like Jesses bikes, all function, No Fluff
timc Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 I have to agree with Michelle.Jesse's bikes are the best that I've seen.Atleast his is completely rideable. If I have to lay over the tank,I might as well ride a rice rocket. bigtim
Joe Handley Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Gotta go with the Jesse James bike here too, the PJD bike looks uncomfortable to ride if not dangerous to boot, the OCC thing was just plain wild, but looked more like a Decepticon than a bike, trike, or snow mobile, While Jesse James' bike looked like something that could be ridden to work on a regular basis and still look "classy" and have a bit of a vintage cool look.
Dr. Cranky Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 I used to love all those shows, including MONSTER GARAGE, but the it really became like watching roadkill. I couldn't stand it anymore. My favorite bike builder, and I have to say I miss him in the world is, was, and will always be INDIAN LARRY. R.I.P.!
jeffs396 Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 I always liked Rick Fairless' show on SPEED for the entertainment value, but his bikes were pretty cool too! http://www.strokersdallas.com/
crazyjim Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 I used to watch the OCC show all the time, right up until they were the guests at Rolling Thunder. The OCC gang wouldn't talk to anybody other than to tell us not to touch their bikes that were on display in Thunder Alley. On Sunday for the demonstration ride for POW/MIA awareness, those OCC guys wouldn't even give us the time of day. We started chatting "Junior, clean up the shop". As I turned onto Constitution on the demonstration ride, the leaders were already coming back on the other side of the street. That's when we saw the POW/MIA bike being pushed along by some OCC employee. I haven't watched OCC in several years and won't ever again. Jesse James could build a better bike than senior and/or junior blindfolded with one arm tied behind his back.
SuperStockAndy Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 I watched part of it, and although I liked Jesse's bike the most, I wanted to punch him in the face for all the "comments". OCC's "bike" (can we call it that?)....it looked fun but it definitely wasn't a bike. PJD's bike, I didn't see that part. I used to love OCC's bikes when Paulie was there a long time ago, because they didn't use all this wacky junk they use these days.
Draggon Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 My favorite bike builder, and I have to say I miss him in the world is, was, and will always be INDIAN LARRY. R.I.P.! Yup, Indian Larry!
LAone Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 honestly, i think the build off was a bit of a joke. the only one that built anything that can be called a motorcylce was jesse. pjd's project was more of an art piece and the so called "machine" was just that, a machine. if it was a fabricator build off then it would be a different story.

I'm with Doc , these shows are so contrived it's not even reality anymore .I read an interview with Paul Jr and he said that they would film weeks worth of footage just to slice together a few moments with the drama and facial expressions they wanted to portray. he said it wasn't even close to reality 90% of the time. strictly entertainment. he said they even had to change into the same clothes for weeks at a time for continuity in the editing Edited December 6, 2011 by scalenut
Darren B Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 I can't stand jesse james his bike was just generic.. nothing special at all about it.. Sr. didn't even build a bike.. I agree with you on Sr's creation, by itself kinda neat but its not even considered a bike, its a trike thing with tracks, electric powered, if i was in the build off I would be contesting that as a viable entry against my bike creation, meaning Jesse or Jr should be upset at the fact that it isn't even a real bike.
moparmagiclives Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Yup, Indian Larry! He was very "mechanical", I liked that. Didnt try to hide everything. Thats what I remember
MikeMc Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Well the motorcycle and the wheelchair beat the chopper....$$ wins votes and Jesse is a Biker....FTW as Indian Larry said ForeEver Two Wheels........RIP
