Erik Smith Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 AMT's old Police Interceptor kit. I found this kit last spring at a hobby shop and it has been staring at me from the shelf ever since. I wanted to make a quick build, but for some reason this was still on the bench for about 2 months. Pretty much straight from the box - I added some interior arm rests and wood panels, antenna, modified the kits side mirror, and drilled out and replaced the molded in headlights. I was going for a subdued 70s look with the colors and raised white letters. Some more shots coming...
Erik Smith Posted December 23, 2011 Author Posted December 23, 2011 Engine is pretty decent in this kit - I added some plug wires. The engine bay? Not so grand. If I ever come across another of these, I may spend time and remedy that (and the screw on chassis). Thanks for looking!
disabled modeler Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 I like it Erik.....very nice build!
martinfan5 Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 Yes I agree, very nice, i have one as well, its going to be a Phoenix Pd one day
RodneyBad Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 Super Nice.. That's a Great looking Build..
Rob Z Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 Very nice looking ride, great color combo and engine detail... I also have one of these and plan on doing it as a Cleveland PD car... Thant's if I can find the correct green for it...
1zebra3 Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 Nice looking car Erik. My brother had the real thing back in the day w/bigblock &cragers it was a beater but could haul the BEER.
W-409 Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 My favorite part on this build is that windshield, which is tinted from the top. Gives some realistic look, I think. Nice model, paintjob is great and color looks good. Wheels and tires are just perfect, thanks for sharing it.
Chuck Most Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 I like this kit, even though it is a little crude in spots and has an incorrect engine, but I think this is the nicest example of one I've seen built up in quite a while. Kudos for going with a more 'civilian' style on this, too- most of them are police (of course) or even Taxi builds.
mcandela Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 Very nice and clean build. Like the 429 in there.
David G. Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 A good solid looking build- great interior work. David G.

bbowser Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 Excellent job! I love these '70's barges. Great interior work.
Guest Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 Nice looking Galaxie Erik! I like the colors on it. I have one that I converted to a two door, but that's about as far as I got with it.
Dominik Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 Hi Erik! What can i say, what isn't said to your perfect looking, fabulos and awesome Model? I like it and you give me insperation and a kick, to "overhaul" old and rusty Policecar. Thanks for it!
wraith Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 Very nice looking model!!!! Love the color combo! especially the brown! What paint did you use? I have a project I want to paint a root beer brown and your color is exactly what I am looking for!
CorvairJim Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 (edited) What a great looking build. Definitely different from the way these models are generally done. I rebuilt one of these that I found at a swap meet for a buck about 10 years ago. That thing was a royal mess when I got it - brush painted silver inside and out, the hood glued shut over an engine that wasn't even glued in itself (!), 3 wheels glued solidly to the chassis with the 4th missing entirely... I'll post it sometime soon to show my take on this wreck. (BTW - Isn't it a Custom 500, not a Galaxie 500? I haven't seen the box since I built up an original release of this kit in the 70's, so I don't recall for sure. It just seems to me - a Chevy guy, not a Ford guy - that it doesn't have all the trim that a Galaxie 500 would have. Besides, wouldn't your typical Police department have trouble justifying the added expense for the higher-line car? Just asking... ) Edited December 23, 2011 by CorvairJim

Says "Galaxie 500" on the decklid also....what a real police department would have bought 40 years ago doesn't have anything to do with AMT's choice back then. I've built a few of these kits, my biggest beef with them was the engine--AMT put a Boss 429 in this kit, which is wrong... Anyway, sharp build..like the color combination. promo55 Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 That is a great looking '70 Ford. I love cars like that. I think the colors are morning gold and indian fire metallic, just what that car needs! This is truly an impressive model! The 429 is not bad, either. Very, very good work!
