I dont see what the big deal is about posting your real name, its a simple rule really, one that should not be to hard to follow . I think its a small price to pay to be able to be a part of this place.

Michael! Glad you're here! Hey, I've got this problem with my swing...I just can't follow thru  Just kidding, I've never played golf before in my life...

Maybe this is why Michael didn't want his name be known...golf advice!

Welcome Michael! B)

I'm always available for golf advice. My golf game is infinitely better than my modeling skills.

Let me know. In the meantime, if there's a specific issue you're having, fire it at me.

I will add my two cents to this, and hopefully that will be it.

When Jairus and I started this forum way back when, it was with intent of creating an online ohana (family) of model car builders around the world.

With that in mind, that should end this controversy, completely.

But then again, there are those who probably want more.

Don't you know everyone in your family's real name, and where they are from?

When you go over to Uncle Freddy's house in Waimanalo, you know that his real name is Frederick Kamakaviavaole, right?

And he lives down by the beach in Nalo....

One thing that has made Model Cars so different is this local style of running things. Yes, it's a sorry excuse for being late with the printing (Hawaiian time), but that's just a coincidence...

In Hawai'i, everyone knows everyone, and we all know where we are from.

It's the same with this online ohana.

If you have something to hide, or are just trying to make trouble for trouble's sake, please say aloha and be gone.

We have always been a laid-back community, where everyone knows everyone.

I have stayed at many fellow modeler's houses over the years in my travels, and I don't think that is something anyone else in this business can say.

It's a great privilege to have so many friends who open up their houses to me when I'm in the area.

Plus, one thing I always get a kick out of is showing up unannounced at friends houses, or stopping by local hobby shops on a road trip, and just seeing the jaw-dropped responses from everyone. It's a blast... Or I should say, it was a blast, with the It's being a hopeful thing in the future.

Where was I?

Oh yea, names.

If it's too much to ask to put your full name and location in your profile or screen name, I'm sorry my wanting to bulid an ohana is offensive, intrusive, and unacceptable to some.

MCM is different from any other magazine ever published.

It was in the beginning a solo effort, done by one person, with a love of the hobby that was second to one, yes, one, not none, if you know me, you know where the refernce ends up.

I started it with the hope of creating a model car magazine for the those who just as crazy about this hobby as I was.

It has grown, although slowly in print numbers, to a major presense in the world of the model car hobby.

With 2012, it will become the biggest model car magazine out there, and this is just the beginning.

It has happened because of the support, loyalty, friendship, and of course patience of Harry.

Yes, my heath is a major issue, and we have other small problems as well.

But tell, have you ever tried to publish a magazine yourself?

I'm not talking about those "cloud publishers", those do not count.

Anyone can do that, with zero money invested.

Publishing is not cheap, when I lost Plastic Fanatic, I went into bankruptcy with over $125,000 listed as debts. I lost everything.

Now, with Model Cars, I think I have gained it all back, plus some.

And so, asking for your full name and location is too much to ask?

I'm sorry.

I think most of us are like me, they like to put people's faces to the names, so-to-speak.

One thing I always get compliments on (besides my great looks), is that I do a lot of photos of people at the shows, with names, that lets everyone know who everyone else is.

That big Toledo NNL one, done with the help of Bob Black, was a blast, so many people got to see who was who in our hobby, and of course Mr. Big got two numbers!!!!! (Yes, I cleared it with him first).

Now, where was I?

Oh yeah,......

shoot.

I forgot

Oh well, I pau....

Haouli makahiki ho!

(Happy Year New)

Gregg as a matter of fact there are lots of people in my family I don't know the names of!!! Too dang many of them to keep track of and some I just don't care to know the name of!

But then so goes life!

I posted mine because I don't care who sees it, not because it was a rule!

I think it really should be a personal choice, but that is just my opinion! :)

What did I miss? What did I miss? Doctor Cranky just got back from a long family vacation. EYEGORE fell in love with the reddest fire hydrant he's ever seen in Key West! Wait, I think that was the 90 mile marker to Cuba!

Fact of human behavior: When your name is attached to what you do, you are more responsible and take more care with the results and effects. Period.

That's another reason asking people ~ especially allegedly grown people ~ to use true names is reasonable. The closer this board gets to 100% compliance with Gregg's rule(s) ~ and, the fewer troublemakers who hide behind anonymity or aliases ~ the fewer personal attacks, the less profanity and obscenity, and the less vitriol and trash we see.

Consider this: It is often said that one should not say or write or do something that one would not be ashamed of explaining to one's children, spouse, parents, loved ones, friends, or neighbors. Obviously, aliases or anonymity can be used to hide one's identity thus shielding one from discovery by those who matter to one.

If having every poster wear his/her true name in this forum accomplishes the elimination of 95% of the garbage that most "unrestricted" boards, forums, and blogs suffer, then it has certainly accomplished a good - no, great - thing!

For the other 5% we have moderators.

So Harry...

Of course, you have your full name in your sig, but..where's your full name under "Full Name?"

I hope you're kidding, becaue I've explained this about a bazillion times already.

You have three options.

1. Use your real name as your screen name, like Jon Cole, Chuck Most and many others do.

2. Post your real name under your avatar.

3. Post your real name in a signature line that appears at the bottom of all your posts.

Any one of those three options is fine.

And... on that note, what about the 'questionable' names? Sure, they could share the same name as a famous or well known person, but when their whole persona follows suit, i.e.: avatar, location, etc... using the "celebrity" ID, it is easy to question the validity.

That's why I use my middle name on here...to clear up any confusion on the validity of it. I kind of resemble the famous person with my first and last name so, I don't want to get attached to that stigma on here. As long as no one asks for a personal picture, I'm good...that's when it starts getting creepy.

However, who is to say that there aren't people on here that just make up random names so that there is something to comply with the rules? No one really knows. I do know that, if I were not comfortable with giving my name but, I had been given several warnings, I'd probably make one up to go by on here. Well, I wouldn't need it to go that far but, if I were someone else I would, just to get to keep coming here.

I went back and read through from the start, and I think it's wise to keep all of our wonderful moderators un-stressed! Let's make their jobs easier, NOT harder.

I spoke w/ Harry about this, and as a result, we're going to implement full background checks.

Starting with urine tests.

Harry will post his mailing address soon, where you can forward that sample to.

:wacko::rolleyes::P:D

Make it easier on them by putting the sample in a container of some sort.
