Weather is a topic we Canadians never tire of discussing!! We had a windy and cold but sunny day today in Ottawa. Hey, January in Canada. I did put on the long johns and a scarf today for the first time this winter. It is supposed to be milder (-8C/19F) with snow tomorrow...we'll see if the forecast holds up...seems these new weather forecasting computer programs can't get it nearly right enough lately.

At 11pm EST it is -21 C with a wind chill of -27C (-6F, WC of -17F). Tomorrow's going to feel like t-shirt weather by comparison to today!

Here's our forecast page for Ottawa if you guys in the sun need to chill a bit! (click on the 'C' by the temp to change to 'F')

At 11:00am our temp was only 39 going to a scorching 45 today. Tonight is supposed to be only 20!

20 is about -6 Celsiusdegrees... Here in Finland, this winter has been pretty warm, about 0 Celsiusdegrees... That's 32 Fahrenheits. But last year, on the coldest day, it was about -30 Celsiusdegrees- about -22 Fahrenheits...

But last winter in Orlando, Florida there was 80 Fahrenheits, when we were there, so it's quite big difference...

Where did that global warming go???

No such thing as global warming Harry.

That's just another way for the government to take money out of our pockets! :(

It's 10 degrees this morning at my place, feels like zero or below!

Time to stay inside and build models where its warm!!

Woke up this morning to 19 degrees! We ran the pool all night so the pipes wouldn't freeze. I insulated our outsite spigots months ago. Plants are covered with sheets. This NOT why we moved to Florida.

I don't like when people visit FLA, George. It's supposed to be good for our economy but we sure don't see it in our area. Maybe over by Orlando or Tampa with all the attractions they have. It's been in our local paper that you DO NOT want to be walking around Orlando alone at night. Evidently gangs take over the city. Scary. I can put up with a couple of nights of cold temps. It sure beats winters in Chicago.

Jim,

Normally i would agree with you about Chicago, but you have missed a very mild winter so far. Yesterday was about the coldest so far and that was upper 20's. UPPER 20's!!! That is really warm for this time as you know.

I find i am much more prone to the length of the winter than the depths reached by the thermometer. At this point we have about 60 days and its over.

cheers,

joe.

You talk like you were BORN there Jim. YOU were once a visitor too. Fla. is too hot for me. I was born here, I LIKE the snow. Age hasn't changed a thing, I STILL like the snow. Have disliked the heat since I left Viet Nam. Some things NEVER change.

Seriously, this is some of the coldest snaps (because of the wind) we've felt in Florida in a while. Again, I am not complaining, anything is better than having to walk on snow, or drive.

Depends on how ya look at it Virge. I don't worry about alligators in my HOUSE and some stupid law tellin me I CAN'T kill the darn thing if it's IN MY KITCHEN!!!! Saw THAT stupidity on the News!!! No fireants, or scorpions or those big ol rat like nutria. So Paradise is all in how you look at it. I'll take the snow BEFORE i put up with those kindsa things.

Back in 2000 I had a bike accident. A car decided to make a left turn into me. His fender caught me between my front axle and the shifter. I still don't why I have a left foot and I don't remember trying to get my foot out of the way. I was thrown up and forward, supposedly did a perfect summersault in the air and landed hard on the road. Both knees were hyper extended, 8 broken ribs, concussion, road rash. The cold winter in Chicago was killing my knees. That's what really prompted my move to FLA. I had a very nice house in Aurora before moving. I tiled the garage floor, added a drain and heat. I'd get home from work, eat dinner, and wash my black 4x4 Dodge pickup in the warm garage. It always felt good driving a clean vehicle when most of the others were covered in salt spray.

Luckily I wasn't wearing a helmet. The ER docs said if I'd been wearing one, the way I landed would probably snapped my spine.

Part of the yard (about 150-200 sq. ft.) down here is very lush with local plants. During the summer it gets so dense that you can hardly see through it. Bring on the humidity, work outdoors for a bit, and wait for rain to take shower. Almost like being back in The 'Nam, George. It just don't get much better.

I can live without those huge bull frogs, but everything else is fine as long as it is at a distance. I remember sitting on the back deck one day and watched an migrating alligator cut across the drive. Nature sure is a quick way to remind you life is on-going!

Never seen an alligator in the 10 years we've been here. I like those little frogs that climb. They must have ittle suction cups on their feet. We have a light post out in the front yard with a plany climbing up and around it. Summertime the frogs climb up by the light and a smorgasboard with the bugs around the light. They're fun to watch.

You moved to the middle of the state Jim. The temp here only dropped to 30 degrees.
