Dragline
I think if we were to all look at it with a careful, honest eye, there is not a ONE of us that would qualify that as "Pro" work. The difference between "Pro" and say "Out of box with zero paint or flash removal" may seem subtle to some, but not this guy. I'm not going to argue the "Pro" built, "Amateur rubbish" thing here. Since that is not germane to the OP's exclamation. And as a qualifier, there are many a "Pro Built" model shown on these here pages. They just arne't needlessly hyped as such. my name is nobody
just because you've been doing something for an extended period of time doesn't mean it makes you an expert at it. some people pick thier noses all thier lives and eat it too, does that make them an expert on nose picking and eating boogers? No. However if someone has paid you to eat your boogers, then I guess your a Pro.
bbowser
No. However if someone has paid you to eat your boogers, then I guess your a Pro. This is the gist of it. If it's your "job" (means of livelihood) and you get paid for it, then by definition you are a professional. If you do it for fun, relaxation, stress induction, whatever, then you're an amatuer. There are plenty of amatuer golfers, carpenters, auto restorers, etc. that do better work than some so-called pros. Just because you do it for a living doesn't mean you're good at it. wgflatliner
i still don't get this fact: because the guy doesn't post on here, you guys can critique his work and make fun of it or whatever. IF the guy came here and started posting under glass, you guys would be doing the exact opposite. why is this? maybe y'all just don't have the guts to say it to them directly, or you simply aren't allowed to tell it like it is to the actual builder due to the rules of the forum. only you know what's holding you back. my suggestion: either stop talking about his quality work, or let the dogs loose and let them HONESTLY critique the people who post under glass. We have several members here who are real pros, who put together models for the box top photography of kits, who operate their own companies to create resin kits and aftermarket parts, and who, over many decades, have been employed by large model car manufacturers to create kits and bring them to market. I would add that the guys at Moebius, Aardvark, TDR, etc., are regular participants on this forum. Dragline
You didn't disagree or agree with me at all Skip so I fail to see why you quoted me. You should quote EXACTLY what it is you disagree with so I can be clear to your meaning. Bob
A.R.C.
If you guys are shocked at what someone classifies as pro-built on E-Bay you should go onto a dating site and check out what some people classify as attractive.

(Sometimes, senior moments are good - I can enjoy TV shows I've seen before without remembering how they come out. But sometimes, those moments aren't so good.) Junkman
Look, look, they use a hyphen, too! According to DoubleD this means they are "for" built garages. As opposed to what? Planned garages? Edited January 18, 2012 by Junkman
Scale-Master
A professional is a person who is paid to undertake a specialised set of tasks and to complete them for a fee. The traditional professions were doctors, lawyers, clergymen, and commissioned military officers. Today, the term is applied to estate agents, surveyors, environmental scientists, forensic scientists, educators, and many more. The term is also used in sports to differentiate amateur players from those who are paid — hence "professional footballer" and "professional golfer". good ol' Wickapedia...wile it lasts anyway. Now, i guess my way of thinking is, is there a model car building profession? Why yes, there is.
Danno
I've always noted that the ones who self-designate themselves as 'pros' or 'masters' usually aren't. The true pros and masters don't have a need to pump the hyperbole. ~ ~ Now before some gomer jumps on Scale-Master using my observation, please dutifully note that his moniker is derived from the name of his business, not from some internal need to self-aggrandize. Mike Kucaba
Ditto. And you really can't compare models when that one has no paint on it... Why not? a model won GSL best of show years ago without being painted. The plastic was polished and a lot of people were shocked and awed.(what emoticon displays shock and awe?) Mike Kucaba
My favorite part of this "pro-built" model is that the "pro" applied the kit number from the decal sheet to the tailgate. Darn it, if it was on that sheet, it was meant to go on the model! Dang it!! I thought I was the only PRO that noticed that
GMP440
Saw the e-bay ad. Nothing in the title says pro built. Just a model built with no detail. If he gets his price more power to him.
moparmagiclives
Why yes, there is. Is it something that the manufactures hire for? Or are you talking like movie production type of modeling jobs? I've never really thought about this untill it was brought up here. I couldnt imagine doing something I liked for a living

Mike Kucaba
Well I have been PROfoundly intrigued by this thread.Last nite I had a meal of burritos and saurkraut, and now I am calling my PROctologist to see if he can give me a PROgnosis of what's up my ***. Modelmartin
Saw the e-bay ad. Nothing in the title says pro built. Just a model built with no detail. If he gets his price more power to him. Finally, after 6 pages of comments someone actually read through the ad. No where does it say PRO. It merely says built. It only takes a cursory glance at the guy's store to see he is a model kit dealer. Talk about mountains and molehills!!! Most "Pro" builders build models and produce limited run kits for sale to collectors. Those who do box-art or movie models are few and far between. Digital effects have been taking over the movie model biz for years. Those guys are going the way of whaling.
Dragline
No harm, no fould Skip. Sorry you had a "senior" moment there. If it makes you feel any better [i'm betting it will not], I have them these days as well. It's all good in the hood. BTW: I too didn't notice the term "Pro" was not anywhere in the ad. Making me as culpable as any else that didn't.

Borgis
Finally, after 6 pages of comments someone actually read through the ad. No where does it say PRO. AH HAAA... but I'm quite sure it said so before. Read the ad again and you will find this: The seller has revised the following item information: Date Time Revised Information 18-Jan-12 08:33:19 EST Description Title Which makes me wonder... which one of you here is called kingofmodelcars on ebay?
