Danno Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 OK. I never build dragsters. Other than the AMT Double Dragster kit when I was a kid, I've never built a single, solitary dragster. So, then my neighborhood plastic (and resin) pusher shows up with this killer Jimmy Flintstone resin TF streamline dragster based (loosely but certainly) on a bullet-nose Studebaker. My fate was sealed. I just hadda build this one. I had some fun. I took some liberties. Made my own decals (learned some lessons the hard way). There's some tongue-in-cheek and outright hilarity involved. I finally got 'er done ... months ago. She surprised me ... she won a couple of local club contests! But pix are few and far between ... because she's just so long, you can't get her all in one shot! Anyway, a couple of different photographers have attempted and here are a few shots from them. Unfortunately, I don't have a pic of the front end ~ with its signature bullet-nose Studebaker ... uh, ... bullet nose grille and the mooneyez-like headlamp fillers. I claim the first-timer defense for any capital-offense faux pas. One of these days, when I finish building the annex to my photo booth, I'll shoot some more and some detail shots, too. Til then, these teases will have to do. PS: See, I do too build stuff!
John Teresi Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Danno......this is Great man.......love the paint job and details.........can`t wait to see it at your up-coming show.
Dr. Cranky Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Beautiful paint and graphics. The whole model really is striking not just because of its length. Nice work.
martinfan5 Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 (edited) Danno, very nice work, I like it, I am like you, I dont build dragster's either Are you feeling ok?, I mean you posted some of your work Edited January 28, 2012 by martinfan5
Peter Lombardo Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Very slick......great job. Be sure to get some shots with the body off.....love to see her in the raw.
Chuck Most Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 To answer your question, no, never wondered about that.... UNTIL I saw this post. Must say, glad my curiosity got the better of me this time.
espo Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Looking Good, I bet this couldn't do a wheel stand in real life with that much wheeeeel base.
Erik Smith Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 OK. I never build dragsters. ...that are less than a football field long. That thing is cool. I would love to see some more shots - that engine looks like it needs to be seen. I can imagine DOF in a photo is pretty tough - I have trouble keeping an 8 inch model in focus. Great work.
Lunajammer Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Whoa Mama! Now that I see it I guess I did wonder. Frankly, in raw resin, I always thought it looked... well... kind of dorky. But I was way, WAY off. I had no idea it would be that impressive. Thanks for sharing it.
Agent G Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 A build? Ok what have you done with Danno? I really like it. The long low look really comes across. The colors suit it just fine too. G
Danno Posted January 30, 2012 Author Posted January 30, 2012 Thanks for all the kind props, guys! As you can probably tell, the paint scheme is a take on the Arizona state flag. The paint is all rattlecan: Testors Diamond Dust silver, Inca Gold, Revvin' Red, and Star-Spangled Blue, covered with Wet Look clear. I learned some serious lessons ... especially about the brand of thin masking tape I tried! Most of the decals were custom created on the ole computer. I had some fun with the markings ... even promoted myself to driver status. Thanks for looking!
bsoder Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Well whatever "liberty's" you took...they worked!..that is just freakin cool man B)
crazyjim Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Weird looking vehicle with fantastic execution.
Dave Ambrose Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 This brings lots of adjectives to mind, but if I used them, I'd have to ban myself. Let's just say it's an epic build and leave it at that.

Let's just say it's an epic build and leave it at that. oooh Let me try! (Clears throat) ... OH MY!! That's much bigger then I thought it would be! But, then I bet you get that alot ! (There is no whistle icon?) Nice build! (LoL!)
zenrat Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 I think I may have at least 1 build that would run in that class. Very good job there. If you can't have a laugh when you build why bother?
manley Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Awesome! Just got that body the other night, i like off the wall stuff. Got the body for $8.00.
BKcustoms Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 This has the perfect combo of unusual and cool! Now I want one.
Danno Posted February 6, 2012 Author Posted February 6, 2012 Thanks, all! Glad you've enjoyed it. I may have to build a dragster again sometime. I truly appreciate all the kind comments.
