mr moto Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 I started a post about this one probably a couple of years ago and then set it aside. It's supposed to be a way out 60's futuristic custom and I decided to name it Mothra since every good 60's custom needs a name and this car has quite a wingspan. Just to refresh memories, this is where it was back when before I put it away. Since then I've done the chassis and started the interior. This build is kind of a "hybrid curbside". It's based on the Model King Imperial (curbside) bashed with AMT's '69 Riveria. I mated the Riveria's roof to the Imp and the interior will also be based on the Riv. There's not much in this build that didn't come out of one of these two boxes. Since the hood is fully louvered there should be something to look at under there. So I installed the Riv engine (with some of the lower half removed) in or on the Imp chassis plate and then provided a little LED lighting. The interior concept is sort of a Lava Lamp look. Here's a before and after on the front seats and the proposed interior layout.. Well, that's where it stands now. Got work to do on the interior!
Ramfins59 Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 That is one way cool looking Custom. I love it.
Sixties Sam Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Very cool! It looks sinister and elegant at the same time! Can't wait to see it finished! Sam
Custom Mike Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Manuel, this should be a cool one! I love the idea of lighting the engine bay, that should look really cool once it's all done! Any ideas on paint yet?
Chuck Most Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Those louvers wouldn't happen to be scale railroad stairs, would they?
Bartster Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 This is 1 way 2 cool custom Mopar! I will enjoy seeing this one through.
kenb Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 This is cool. Could you tell us how you louvered the hood. Ken
Dirty Gringo Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 I like the direction this is going I have a couple of these kits and havent touched them yet but might have to now
High octane Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Your Imperial build looks awesome so far and I like what you're doing to the interior as well as the body mods.
mr moto Posted February 14, 2012 Author Posted February 14, 2012 Those louvers wouldn't happen to be scale railroad stairs, would they? That's it exactly! Here's a test of the underhood lighting.
Mr.Zombie Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Smashin'! Absolutley love how it looks right now. Maybe except the Rivera front window... But hey, details.
Dave Ambrose Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Nice looking build. Those louvers are a keeper.
JasonFL Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 That is really cool, I love how you did the seat.
Dirkpitt289 Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Wicked cool all around. The railroad stairs for hood louvers was ingenious. I also love the lighting. I was just thinking today if it would be possible to run some lighting in a car kit. Humm.....
mr moto Posted February 23, 2012 Author Posted February 23, 2012 The interior is starting to come together. This is the seat I used for an upholstery test. As you can see, I'm sticking with the lava lamp theme. The uphostelry pattern is a homemade decal. Found the pattern by Googling "seamless paisley pattern". Try it! You'll find a zillion of 'em. Fitting the decal into the seat is a little tedious but I think I have the hang of it. The rest of the interior is ready to receive the same treatment now.
Steve Keck Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Thatz cool! I'm glad you resurrected it. Now finish it and keep us updated.
Harry P. Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 That seat pattern is by an artist named M.C. Escher. Google him. His work is amazing!
vwrabbit Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I love Escher and I love that seat! Keep going! Tim
Lunajammer Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 (edited) In fact, if you look at it right you can see a part of the 3-D image at the bottom of that swatch. Now THAT would bring a new element to modeling... subliminal 3D stylings. As if the bodywork alone wasn't already blowing my mind. Edited February 23, 2012 by Lunajammer
Dr. Cranky Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Wonderful build. This thing is going to look great painted. Can't wait. Thanks for sharing it.
