hey guys i was just wondering how muc the little cans of duplicolor run? i been reading a lot of good things about them and i wana try it on my next build. we have an advance auto parts right across from where i live so i will probley be doing a little hobby shopin friday. also i know you got to prime ur model before u paint so i was just wondering if they have it for plastics or can u just use what u get at the auto parts store? i have a lot about duplicolor on this fourm and couldnt find out what i wanted to know so thought i would ask. any help is greatly apperiacted.

Not sure how much of a difference in price between Canada and the US will be but they are about $12 here. Their primer is good as well and I do use it, but some have suggested cheaper brands from Wally Mart which I think I will give a try. No sense in throwing away money. As it has been mentioned duplicolor is a good paint and you have a great selection of colors.

Hey Richie, If I'm not mistaken I believe they run between $6-$8 dollars for the cans of spray. At least that is here in Central Texas.

yeah, $6.99 here to...BUT, i suggest using PlastiCote sandable primer...T235 grey, or they have black and red oxide to... so as not to craze the plastic from the Duplicolor...

thanks guys for all help really appericate it. i been wanting to try it after reading about it on here and seeing all the pics. on my first build i didnt use primer or polish it all and it shows. my next build will be a 69 camero ss i will be using primer on that since all the parts are blue and iam gona polish after painting and wax it to so it will look good i hope. advane auto parts is right across from where i live so looks like i will be going hobby shopping friday.

Its .59 cents at ollies bargan center. I beleive theres one in Springfield Ohio and it dont craze plastics as some parts of real cars are plastics.

i always prime if i paint anything!! especially when using lacquer or a 'hot' enamel as these paints WILL craze the plastic underneath if there's no primer barrier...and remember, paint prep is everything...the better the part is prepped, the better the paint turns out... good luck!! post pix!!

You're not alone Rob its around $12 here for the 8oz can and $18 or so for the 12 oz ones but they're still cheaper than the Tamiya at around $15 for a small can

The key with DupliColor primer is to mist on the first 2-3 coats to get a complete coat down over the entire model before putting down one "wet" coat. At 10 minute flash times between coats, it doesn't really take that long. When it comes to painting after proper prep, not rushing is the next most important thing.

I really like the paints.....2nd only to Tamiya.

that model looks good real good my next question when do i clear coat it? after the paint is done?

Only clear when all your painting is done, I clear, wet sand, clear, wet sand, just enough to dull the clear, as you all will see with '59 GOTHIKA, I will do many coats of clear, till you can almost fall into the pearl, paint, likes it's dipped in glass, it's just a layering the clear, good luck man, I wanna see pictures too,

Yes, clear. I bet if you warm the can, and don't spray too fast, you will get a nice flow out and gloss.

Oh, and a tack rag... just before you are ready to spray the first coat. Takes away those dust specks!

one more tip. Duplicolor metallic paints are HOT HOT HOT. You will craze the model very easily if you aren't careful. Even with Duplicolor primer. You have to mist the paint on in light coats, or else you'll craze it. Go slow and eventually you'll get he whole thing covered. I've made this mistake too many times.
