I hate the part where I burn my fingers from holding on to metal while im cutting it with a dremel cutting wheel , Man! brass can get hot! Or the part where i grab the soldering iron by the hot part cause im not watching what im doing....or when you get superglue in your eye cause you try to take the cap off with your teeth, but heres my all time least favorite part of building models .....when I have to go to the emergency room for stitches cause I didnt properly use an exacto knife by cutting away from my fingers. Yep those are the good ol days. :)

Painting, my wife gives me grief, even with water base. "I can smell that!"

Oh man... I can't tell you how I hate hearing that...!!!

I can't paint in my basement because

#1- My younger daughter (28) moved back in with us 4 1/2 years ago and she lives down there (all her furniture and clothes). She's getting married in 2 years (YEAY..!!)... I'll get my basement back...!!!

#2- My wife says she can smell the paint upstairs...

I can't paint in the garage because my wife says she can smell the paint upstairs...

I can't paint outside because the wonderful weather we get here in the Pittsburgh area just totally sucks... It's either raining or snowing or windy... Even on the off chance I can sneak in some outside painting on a clear day, the women still mention that they can smell the paint... BUT THE PAINT IS DRYING LADIES... I PAINTED IT OUTSIDE...!!!

Painting the body. I always seem to get stressed about messing it up and I inevitably get a speck of dust in it despite my best effort. I always put it off till last and now am under a crunch to get it done for the Showdown on March 10th. Did I mentioned this happened last night...

Painting. That's my mega-phobia.... Instead of shooting the body early on, I wait until the end of the build before I shoot the body. I am aware of my mistake in assembly, but I do it all the time. Then I'll have a killer engine, nicely done interior & chassis, and an anxiety attack because now the paint has to be on-par with the rest of the build.

I'll add to the soul-sharing topic. What's the most bodies you've painted to finish a build? I'm not talking Lake Super Clean do-overs.... I'm talking cracking open a fresh kit for the body because the one you painted & stripped 47 times is under your heel do-over?

I'll go first: Three.

The body paint for me too. Of course it's the most important/visible part, what draws people to the model in the first place. I enjoy the prep, cleaning up mold lines, laying on primer, going back to see what was missed. But those color coats just kill me. That and dashboards!

Well maybe I am extra weird ( been back in the hobby about 6 months now ) after a 30 year absence ,

but i just wish THEY WOULD LEAVE THAT UGLY TOY LOOKING CHROME PLATE OFF ! Ok now im

calm again , I strip every piece its like a do over .......

I'm going with what some others have said about putting in window AND anything having to do with gluing something to the window (like rear view mirror) never fails that I get glue everywhere other than where it's intended.

That and cleanup. I HATE cleaning up my work area, despite how nice it is when it's clean. I'll let the mess creep in until I'm left with only a 2in x 2 in space to work in and even then I'll do my best to work in that space!

Lately, I've been dreading building those interiors, in particular of models like the 62 Impala with all of that trim that needs foiling. Yikes.

But I also don't enjoy building the engines . . .

Funny, because that's the part of the build that I love the most. :) I simply love building the engine, detailing it, wiring it, etc. etc. Currently, in the '88 Vette kit I just got in the mail today, I'm in the nasty part of just gluing the engine block halves together and seeing a small gap and alignment issue. So I'm stuck sanding the lines down and filling in some sink-holes in some areas, etc. etc. I don't currently have any filler putty that I can use that won't crumble away, so I'm making due using superglue gel and baking soda. This works surprisingly well and I'm glad I read about that while stalking the forums here before signing up. It makes a mess when sanding, but I used this on the '05 kit I just finished building and I can't even see where it was used, so it's nice and strong. This weekend, I'll need to go and hit the hobby shop and pick up supplies. (And I MUST stay away from the kit area. :P:D )

Two things that I fear/hate :

-detailing the engine bay. I build a lot of curbside kits just to eliminate having to wire engines and have a number of partially finished models sitting in boxs because when it came to the engine the whole thing went back in the box.

-the last couple of work sessions before I kit is finished. Now matter how well the build has gone I assume that something will go wrong before the kit goes on the shelf and these last couple of times that I'll be handling the kit is the Model Gods last opportunity to ruin all my hard work.

I hate painting the body. I'm lousy at it and it takes so much work, scratch building one, that it's a shame to be painted by me. I know a guy who paints helmets and I'm going to ask him to paint my next car.

I can't say that I dislike any of the building process, but I do find that I debate with myself while detailing the undercarriage as to 'why I spend so much time detailing something that few if any will ever see. The conclusion I always come to is that I'll know it's been done right,... that and my dad's voice in my head, "if it's worth doing, it's worth doing right." ;)

There's one that really hits home for me! No matter how hard I try to be careful, I seem to cut myself on a pretty regular basis!

I agree with a lot of you guys on the sanding of mold lines and fixing ejector pin marks. I can't say that I really HATE it, but it's just not really much fun and can be pretty time consuming, especially on stuff with tube chassis ( pro stocks, NASCARS, monster trucks, and so on...).

My biggest issue is build direction. I look at a kit and don't know where I want to go with it. For a while.

I guess planning is my biggest thing that bothers me.

Or the ejector pin markings in awkward spaces that make themselves impossible to remove.

I think another one I can add to this list is how frustrating it is to have your parts painted, and in the process of adding other parts to the piece or holding it while the glue sets you wind up rubbing off paint from high areas of the part you had previously painted. Or, the paint is soft enough that you end up leaving a fingerprint on there. REALLY frustrating.
