How about modelers that put a fully detailed model (engine and chassis over a mirrored base not in the rules) in a judged show in shelf model class /curbside and win first in class. This happened at the Masscar show on 3/18/12. People will put their models in the class that will benefit them the most, even though the model does not belong in that class.

One of the reasons I don't enter my models in contests, and refuse to be a judge in contests when I've been asked. B) I've seen exactly that kind of thing happen at the little hole-in-the-wall shows I like to attend.

Pet peeve : the use of hip, jargon terms for automotive parts not in popular use, i.e. "dizzies".

Commonly in use here in AUSTRALIA Greg.

Is "hip" still in popular use in Phoenix? Groovy.

Just when I was gettin' used to bonnet, boot, wing and dynamo. I taught high school auto mechanics for eight years. This was one of my lessons. Dizzy is used here with the tuner crowd.

Missing Alternator brackets is right up there, but my biggest pet peeve is : Beautifully painted and finished models with tires that look like they came off of a toy car . Nice and shiny , no lettering , and a big mold line down the center of the tread ! Even the ugliest beater looks good with a nice set of aluminum wheels amd some Radial T/A's ! ! I've sold two old cars that way ( of course I get to keep them to be used on my next vehocle ) .

The lettering issue is really two-fold, part of it is to do with the model manufacturers (mainly Revell) not putting lettering on the tires anymore. The other part is that not everyone wants to pay for aftermarket tire lettering transfers. I agree though that tires should look somewhat worn, at least on the tread. I could see shiny sidewalls, since that's what people do a lot at 1:1 auto shows.

Australia kind of gets a pass from the jargon police for two reasons:

1) America Likes Australia and Australians, and

2) It's downright entertaining trying to figure out what you guys are saying sometimes.

For example, I found out a few years ago that a "footprint" is actually a pipe wrench. Blew my mind.

This person we are talking about will never see this,so he will still be making his "tackle box models" to the delight of the misinformed.

What is a tackle box model?

My pet peeves, no keys in the ignition, forgetting the radio antenna, not filling the tank up with gas, a glove box that does not open,or the gas filler cap, as you can see, I am just joking

I dont give a rats butt what people do or dont do on there builds, its their build, so who I am to say anything, its these things that suck all the fun out this hobby. Now I will agree that some things should done or added or removed for contest builds.

A " tackle box " or " Easter basket " model is one that contains every single color known to man with no thought or effort toward color conformity with it's build !

Sunglasses anyone ?

My peeve is when the laws of physics and/or general mechanics are thrown out completely for the sake of ride height/wheel size.

Wheels/tires too large or wide for the front wheels to turn side to side or tires touching the wheel wells/fenders in any way. Yeah I know it's just plastic, and people should be free to flex their creativity, but the subject is mechanical and it should look like it could work/run if it was 1:1.

My pet peeve is when some builders have very strict opinions about how things should look and work and don't remember that these are just

opinions and as such, only applicable on their own work.

Everybody else are entitled to their own opinions and can build anything, anyway they want.

To each, his own... ;)

I have to have double standards. There's no way it would be fair to hold any one else to the standards to which I hold my self.

The only thing I find truly offensive is wilful ignorance; refusing to educate and improve onesellf goes against everything that makes us human.

When people refuse to take the time to remove mold seams in visible locations, or learn how to communicate effectively on message boards, that's annoying. When the same people defend these actions by claiming that those who ask them to open their minds to education and improvement are being overly demanding, unreasonable or just plain mean, that's truly offensive behavior.

Either way, I just have to shake my head and walk away. If someone doesn't want to improve themselves and grow, it's not my problem.

I'll be back to restate my opinion in a few months when the "Basic Skills" and "Plain English" topics are reintroduced. ;)

Until then, thanks for putting up with my rant... again.

Absolutely true. However this thread is ABOUT what we don't like and here we have been asked to freely voice our opinions. You can even voice your opinion about our opinions. Whick in my opinion, is a great thing.

To be fair, this is something that's found in the 1:1 world as well.
