Dr. Cranky Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 Just curious to find out what and from whom do you buy. I tend to get my stuff from the usual and very reliable places: Norm Veber's, The Modelhaus, Model Car Garage, etc . . .
rmvw guy Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 My stuff comes from local hobby store ( Toys Forever Models and Hobbies, Muncie, Indiana ), Hobby Lobby, and Hobby Town USA, Indianapolis ( about 50 miles away). No credit card to order online (Wife is in charge of that. lol)
peter31a Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 Aftermarket? As well as the ones you've mentioned I'd go with Morgan Automotive Detail, MotorCity Resin Casters, Scale Modeling by Chris, Missing Link - the Detroit Aotumotive Group! All great guys and great products.
MicroNitro Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 Flashpoint, Pro Teck, Scale Hardware, Amazon. Amazon has stuff I never thought of aluminum bar and rod, very small stainless rod and tube and tools. I really want to get some stuff from Dirt Modelers.
shucky Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 Scale Hardware, RB Motion, Detail Master, Pegasus, Jimmy Flintstone, and Ma's Resin are what I can think of at the moment. Really like Micro Nitro stuff, but haven't placed an order yet.
Dr. Cranky Posted April 6, 2012 Author Posted April 6, 2012 Some great suggestions, folks, thank you!
Eshaver Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland , outstanding service ! You can actually talk to Norman on the phone . Model haus , expensive , but like a Snap - On wrench, well worth the product Bare metal Foil , I buy decal paper from him Jimmy Flintstone , yes some of the bodies leave a few details to be desired , but they're affordable . Ma's Resin. Hey the guy has had some problems , but his heart is in the right place . Bandit Resins , I happen to know Ken personally and i will vouch for him and his great wife too. Ed Shaver
Chillyb1 Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 My first, and last, stop is usually Strada Sports. Kevin has great stuff at great prices and I'm happy to send him my aftermarket dollars. Highly recommended.
Draggon Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 I agree that R&M, Modelhaus are great. One of my all time favorites is Kris Morgan http://www.madmodeling.com/store/ . I also like Scale Repros Plus http://scalereprosplus.com/ Scenes Unlimited http://scenesunlimited.homestead.com/ and annalitt http://myworld.ebay....984.m1543.l2533
mikemodeler Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 There are some members here who have dipped their toe into the resin casting business and have some great product. Most do not have a formal website or order form so I will have to dig up past emails to list them out. As far as the other aftermarket guys, I will list them here: MCW - have only bought at shows but great product and nice selection Ma's Resin- excellent product and great person, just overwhelmed at the moment but worth the wait. The Modelhaus- what is there to say except great people and product! Scale Equipement LTD- it's been awhile but great stuff. VCG Resins- Craig is one of us, and he has excellent turnaround time! Bandit Resins- Kenny is another builder/caster and has great stuff. I am sure I am forgetting a few but I have yet to feel cheated by any of the people I have bought from. That being said, I have also paid attention to some of the posts here about others' experiences and have steered clear of the "problem casters and dealers". As a consumer I appreciate the feedback and opinions so I can decide if I want to spend my money with some of these businesses or not!
mikemodeler Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 I almost forgot one other............................ Donn Yost ! He has helped so many of us with his advice and encouragement not to mention his excellent how-to videos!
Burnout Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 I bought from many companies over the years but the only companies that I am a repeat customer of are: Reps and Miniatures Competition Resins Modeltyme Designs Slixx decals (so sorry to see them go)
brad4321 Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 My first, and last, stop is usually Strada Sports. Kevin has great stuff at great prices and I'm happy to send him my aftermarket dollars. Highly recommended. Strada is only hobby company I've ever had a problem with. Nothing worse than paying for a product that you will never receive.
Old Sprinter Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 RB Motions, Scale Hardware, Ratrodzrus, Micro Fastners and everything else from Hobbylinc.
Sixx Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 Oh man, pro-tech, modelhaus, micro-nitro,competition resins, bandit resins, ross gibson, just a ton of em out there!!! I could keep going........
crazyjim Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 I was trying to think of something witty to say but have run out of time. I have to get the Friday night pizza going. Make popcorn later and watch WWE Friday Night Smackdown. Also have to get ready for tomorrow's FAST meeting. Have a great night everyone.
Jantrix Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 Baremetal Foil, Plastruct, Evergreen. That's it. I don't buy anything else. No PE, no resin, no billet anything. I use low-buck alternatives from a craft store or I build it from scratch.
Rob Hall Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 I've had good experiences with many aftermarket companies...Modelhaus, Missing Link, Motor City Resin Casters, Pegasus, Competition Resins, Mike's Scale Speed Shop, Scale Equipment Ltd, Replicas & Miniatures Co of Md, Model Car Garage, Plastruct to name a few...

styromaniac Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 I've known Norm Veber of Replicas & Miniatures of Maryland for years, and absolutely love his line of nostalgic flathead speed parts ( Edmunds, etc as mastered by Rik Hoving & others ) The S.C.O.T. blower he offers is a miniature masterpiece, as well as the Ardun heads. I'm fortunate to live in the DC area so I can access his stuff in person at the monthly M.A.M.A - Maryland Automotive Modelers meetings when I need to restock or something new comes out. But I've already loaded up on just about everything he sells that I like so I may not need to buy anything for awhile...I need to find time to actually build. I've also bought some items from George Kuranow's Model Car Garage...and an item or two from Parts by Parks. Most of my engine wiring came from Detail Master. I've been wanting to try some of Modelhaus' selection of various wheels & tires but haven't quite got around to it yet.

Dr. Cranky Posted April 7, 2012 Author Posted April 7, 2012 Wonderful list of after market providers. You guys are the best.
Brudda Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 I am very new to the hobby.I have had great success with strada sports. If there is a problem he will fix it.My first order was sent and it was someone elses order. I sent it back and he had the original order sent out fast! Kevin was my first mail order and things worked out great. Another person is Derrick at icon auto. He has great resin tyres.I have ordered from him and had great success also. Love your stuff Doc!!
Erik Smith Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 I don't buy a lot of aftermarket stuff (and it seems I use even less than I buy!?!)...but, I have ordered from Norman Veber - his products are actually unbelievable. I have the SCOT blower and I can't figure out how someone made that and how he casts it so clean. I also have a couple wheel and brake drum sets from Scenes Unlimited and Modelhaus - both have excellent resin products. The few resin bodies I have are a mixed bag - a couple R & R ones are interesting subjects but also have a TON of work to do to make a decent looking car. I have three Jimmy Flintstone bodies and they are pretty nice - and the price makes them an excellent value. I use photoetch from MCG (nuts and bolts, windshield wipers) and ProTech (nuts and bolts) and a couple misc Detail Master parts. Of course, BMF. I haven't really ever had a problem with any of the companies listed.
