modelmike Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 Ther is a topic futher down asking if you have seen any young kids shopping for kits, and it reminded me about what happened to me about two weeks ago..... I went to my local Michael's and when i arrived at the model kits there was a small boy of about 10 or 11 years old cluching money in one hand in frantic search mode for a kit..... after a few minutes of my own searching i asked him so what kind of kit are you looking for? he replied with his index finger at a kit of a '49 Mercury special edition.... "nice" i said "i have that kit".... "But i can't get it i don't have enough money" he said. so i asked how much you got..... and to make a long story short the kid got the kit he wanted and i met my wife with a feeling that $20.00 dollars could'nt buy.... I hope I helped to make another modeler......
modelmike Posted April 15, 2012 Author Posted April 15, 2012 Don't know i paid for it gave him the bag and went to meet my wife in another part of the mall....
Dr. Cranky Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 Mike, I love this story. I'm sure the kid was ultra happy.
crazyjim Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 Way to go Mike. That was very nice and thoughtful of you.
JasonFL Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 Good story mike. That is something that kid will never forget and he picked out a great model. You did a real good thing weather you know it or not, I applaud you. Great way to pay it forward
Brizio Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 That's very nice of you! And for sure the kid will remember that!
jeffs396 Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 Cool story! Hopefully in ten years or so we'll be reading here how this young contest winner got his feet wet in kit building..."it all started from the generosity of a stranger in Michaels one day..."
charlie8575 Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 This is a nice story to start my Sunday with. Good for you, and hopefully good for the hobby! Charlie Larkin
RickRollerLT1 Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 +90000 Mike!! Once at AC Moore, I was on a line that was held up because a mother was shocked that her sons Knects set came up $129.99 rather than $59.99 as she thought was that price. Her credit card was invalid and only had $70 on hand. As ppl infront of me were getting grouchy and inpaitent, I decided to step up and give her a 50% off coupon bringing it down to to about $65, which was just perfect for what she was going to spend. She was asking me about coupons and how they work, and being she was so happy about what I did for her (and for other inpatient people on line), she gave me the remaining $5 (which I tried to not accept at first) she had and a hug ( ).
mikemodeler Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Great story Mike, glad to hear about paying it forward. I haven't had the chance to do that just yet, but I have handed out Hobby Lobby coupons when at the store. It was nice to see the smile on a kid's face when he ran up to his Mom with the coupon and tell her about it.
JunkPile Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Thats real nice. Try this sometime: Do something nice for somebody, and don't tell anybody about it.
wraith Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 AWESOME! VERY COOL AND NICE THING TO DO! That is something that will stick with that kid forever!!!
mysterj1 Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 Thanks for sharing that, Mike. I'll take that lesson and keep it in mind and see if I can't "pay it forward" somehow myself. I appreciate the life-lesson and I'll use it as encouragement to bless someone else
Greg Wann Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 http://www.thesecret.tv/index.html Wonderfull story. You made the secret work for you and this young person. BRAVO!
gtx6970 Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 Great feeling isnt it? About a month or so ago, I was selling at local model swap meet /show. When this young girl ( maybe 8 or 9 ) came up to my table with money in hand ( $5 ) I had several builder kits on the table all at $5 ea. She couldn't decide on which one out of 2 she wanted So she bought one and I gave here the 2nd. I told her she had to build it and I wanted to see one of them on the show table next year. As adults and embassaders of the hobby we are a dying breed. And we MUST nurture the young ones to preserve the hobby as a whole or it wll die off when we do . Video games were are not .
