Ace-Garageguy Posted November 21, 2012 Author Posted November 21, 2012 I really really really appreciate the positive feedback on this one, and so does the little car. Just for fun, I tried an earlier wheel / tire combination to backdate the look to mid-'60s showcar, in the Barris Fireball 500 vein.
aksarben Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 I really dig the look of the Camaro wheels under this giving it a modern look but those old school "hot rod" wheels look right at home as well.. well, I guess you'll just have to make another one so you can have both versions.. Steve
W-409 Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 These Old School wheels and tires look excellent, and make this project much more interesting. I really like the look, a lot of work behind already on this one.
Ace-Garageguy Posted December 16, 2012 Author Posted December 16, 2012 (edited) A little at a time.....The trans I'm using is actually 1/24 scale in a 1/25 model (I know, but I don't care right now), and it's a big trans to start with, a ZF 6 speed, so making a trans tunnel to accommodate it, the engine setback, and still have room for the seats I want to use took a little thought. On top, with a mark where the shifter will go... The asymmetrical console that will tie in to the dash and tonneau designs.... ....and a look at the semi-complete firewall setback to allow the engine setback. darquewanderer Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 I like where your going here. Going to keep my eye on it.
Ace-Garageguy Posted March 21, 2013 Author Posted March 21, 2013 She's been resting while I've been working on some new filler techniques, but as of today is back in the rotation. There's a lot of sculpting to do on the tonneau, and I wasn't entirely satisfied with the polyester filler, as thick as it was going to be. The epoxy / microballoon filler I've been experimenting with solved the problem, though it takes an overnight cure. More pix shortly.
DailyGrindCustoms Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 You have some great skill. I cant believe you were able to fix it and make it look as cool as it does now! Usually, If a model was that far gone. anyone else would throw it out. Great job!
FASTBACK340 Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 You have our attention for sure. Looking forward to seeing more updates!
BKcustoms Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 It's great to see this one is back! I can't wait for more progress.
Ace-Garageguy Posted September 2, 2013 Author Posted September 2, 2013 Had some pinhole issues in the f'glass patch-panels, finally decided how to kill them by forcing Squadron Green into them with a chisel-tip blade. I also removed too much material from the rear corners of the chassis, so that's getting dealt with now. The fuel tank also gets modified to make room for pipes to run under it.
FASTBACK340 Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Thanks for the update. Nice to see an ambitious project return for round #2. Tough builds are tough builds. Especially when "life" interrupts. I have a project that's been kicking around under the bench for about 14 yrs. now...... I wish I had the time like I did when I was younger to build more. Again, good to see the update. Looking good and we're paying attention.
DrKerry Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 This is shaping up pretty nice!!! Like what you have so far!!
Mike Kucaba Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 I think I saw this at the patch panel post and that's when I had a computer meltdown. Nice to see this one come along so well.
1930fordpickup Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 It is looking great , keep up the good work.
Tom Geiger Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Cool! I had to go back and read the entire thread it was so neat. I love saving things nobody else would try to save. Especially since that poor body somehow survived 50 plus years in it's broken state, it deserves to shine again!
Modelbuilder Mark Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 I agree, seeing something that most would have just tossed in the can come back to life is a real pleasure, and your design sense is spot on for this project as well I think.
Ace-Garageguy Posted September 4, 2013 Author Posted September 4, 2013 Thanks again for the continuing interest in this project. I'm going to try to have it done (maybe at least in all one color of primer??) by the ACME-sponsored NNL Southern Nats on Nov. 9, but with everything else I have to do in that time slot, including moving, it's going to be tough.
