Harry P. Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 I suppose it boils down to your own personal preferences, and how anything that may be off looks to your eye. For me, this one falls WELL within the acceptable criteria. Yeah, I agree. I don't mean to be "Debbie Downer" on this kit. I do see the roofline as being "off," but overall I think Moebius is to be commended for a job well done. I'll take a new kit (with a few small flaws) of a car never produced before over no new kit at all any time!
Agent G Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 Roof goof not withstanding, how's about a 55 Roadmaster Moebius? G
charlie8575 Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 I saw a couple of these assembled at NNL. Once assembled, they look good, and that roof isn't noticable to me, or a couple of other people I talked to, once assembled and painted. For whatever reason, it's a little more pronounced in the bare plastic. The other thing I heard was the grille may be ever-so-slightly small, but again, once built, it becomes far less noticeable. I'll grab one. Perfect would have been better, but this is so good otherwise, I'll deal with the couple of errors. Charlie Larkin
Casey Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 maybe because i'm not that into it i'm looking at it a bit differently, no rose tinted glasses here on my face. Only .01% of people who look it over will even notice the flaws, and the other 99.99% don't notice or don't care. No kit will ever be perfect, but Moebius is at least setting their standards high and aiming for perfection, and that is to be commended. Now come on Moebius, get going on that '70 'Cuda kit, please. We've all had enough of these '50s "grandpa" cars.

We've all had enough of these '50s "grandpa" cars. I understand what Dave Zinn means, when I looked at the body I found it "odd" the rear of the roof being higher then the front, but it's not a deal breaker, in fact I already ordered the Flock version, Moebius is still in it's learning curve...I'm sure they will improve with every new release, unlike that other manufacturer. So if anyone at Moebius is reading this, send an extra of the next subject test shot to me for an "outsider review"... Can't blame a guy for trying LOL
ZTony8 Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 I noticed in the comparison pics that the "300" on the gas door and the "CHRYSLER" name above the side molding on the model slant the opposite way from the pic of the real car.OOPS. I can also see a slight difference in the curve of the side window line and it seems to have a bit of a chopped top.In spite of all that I still thimk it's a great kit.I saw one built up and it looks very impressive. Moebius should consider doing the newer cars-a '71/72 Riviera,a correct '65 GTO,and a 1970 Barracuda. And keep doing more 50s American iron.
62rebel Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 over the past thirty-odd years i've seen a heck of a lot worse gaffes than these. some are outright unconscionable, and many are due to manufacturers working as fast as possible to get a new tool out before the competition, and not having the correct data from the 1:1 car builders..... and some decent tools and reissues have been utterly ROASTED for what i deem petty inaccuracies. it's been explained dozens of times before: scaling something down exactly by numbers does NOT always ensure proportional accuracy or scale fidelity, and with cars that have many compound curves, it's almost a GIVEN that SOMETHING is not going to look "right"... now; lettering that faces the wrong direction? oops. simulated air scoops facing the wrong way? ooops... molds that have already been shipped to China and put in use for months if not years? well... what does accounting say? so be it.
1930fordpickup Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 When a new kit is copied off cad it will be better ! But when they have to scan a car or use old blue prints they will be off in one place or another. Not even all 1:1 cars from the 50's match the blue prints. Things were changed on the fly and you had to get production going. When dies get old the fit may be off here and there . If the car they used to check there drawings was off well they might have thought it was correct . I for one am glad it is not another Tri-year Chevy , Corvette ,Camaro or Mustang .
Funkster Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 What do you mean grandpa cars. To let you know if it wasn't Chrysler 300's and cars like it from the 50's. You wouldn't have the Cuda's camaro's and mustangs today. Just remember these grandpa cars did 140 mph at daytona in the 50's, Now what is top end on your Cuda and other pony cars. About the same and 20 years newer. Now what do you have say?
Eshaver Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 (edited) Iv'e read everyones comments and here's my view . The Crysler has it's fuel cap on the correct side . The re inforcing ribs are where they're supposed to be . The interior pattern is not some "Aftermarket hash job. " The pices even seem to fit with precision accuraccy. My goodness people , get a hobby ! Ed Shaver Edited April 30, 2012 by Eshaver
Harry P. Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 keep in mind that Harry reversed my image so that he could place that black outline over it from the image of the 1:1 car, the lettering is backwards because the image is backwards. Yes, exactly. I forgot to mention that. The Moebius kit has the lettering slanted the right way!
meaneyme Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 Anyone here in the forum who can share a WIP of this kit? I would love to see it done by a good modeler.
Harry P. Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 I realize this doesn't answer your question immediately... but the next issue of MCM (May/June) has a big step-by-step how to, including buildups by Bill Coulter, Len Carsner, Sean Svendsen and Dave Metzner himself!

Moebius is doing great things and customer feedback helps them getting better.... Edited May 1, 2012 by Luc Janssens
cruz Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 I am seriously thinking about putting one of these babies together.....
Guest Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 I think a lot of that hump in the rear of the roof could possibly be sanded out. To me, the roof looks like it's a little low like it has a slight chop to it. It could be the side window openings because in the profile comparison that Harry did,the height at the front of the roof looks to be dead on. But,even that isn't solid proof that it is or isn't correct. I want to support Moebius, but like the Hudson, my interest just isn't there for this kit either.
thatz4u Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 you don't like the roof?? build it as a convertible with the top down...problem solved!!!
cooltoys1 Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 I had a wonderful time building this kit. Yes, i chopped it and added a few kustom touches, but all in all, i didnt see anything i would alter if i were heading up the development of this kit. It truely is a beautiful creation.
jjsipes Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 I am seriously thinking about putting one of these babies together.....  Do it Marcos you won't be disappointed. I would love to see what you can do with one of these. I have been working on one for a few weeks when time allows and it is great kit.
chopper430 Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 i just got three of them this month can't wait to get to start on them one box stock .the other ..well you know lol..!
Jon Cole Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 I stopped at my LHS early in the week, nothing in stock. He phoned in the order for me while I was there, the supplier will strap a few to the shell of their UPS turtle... I may have one by the eighteenth.
Chuck Most Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 Just got one yesterday, and I have to say my only gripe is the box. I wish it were just a bit larger, so that everything wasn't crammed in there as tightly. Fortunately there was only one loose part (lower radiator hose), and no parts had been twisted or ripped off the sprues because of the cozy confines. One observation about the box art... it's very eye catching and nicely done, but did anybody else notice that the car's model year is nowhere to be found on the box? Not griping there, just wondering out loud.
