Harry P. Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 I'm just curious why some of you guys don't use an avatar. Not that it's a big deal. Like I said, I'm just curious.
martinfan5 Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 I wonder that too sometimes, I also wonder why people dont show their age. I would have to agree with Name Full, probably dont know how to do it, or just dont care enough to
MrObsessive Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 I try to change mine from time to time-------right now you see my nice smiling face in it!
Guest Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 For me, it's just not worth the hassle to have one. It doesn't make my experience here any different.
rmvw guy Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 I had some trouble changing mine the last time and just kept trying till it took. I might almost have made the 90%. It might be simple if you know what you're doing, how about a refresher course?
Greg Myers Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 You know Harry, I was wondering the same thing. Jonathan, I thought about the age thing too. My conclusion was lazy also.
sports850 Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 I wonder that too sometimes, I also wonder why people dont show their age. I generally don't put my full date of birth on things as most utility and other companies here use your name and date of birth as security questions when you call on the phone (pretty poor security if you ask me) . I know it would probably only take a dozen or so calls to guess the right year but I want to make anyone trying to screw me around work a little harder .
martinfan5 Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 I can see how some people might trouble with the avatar, it can be a pain sometimes. Greg, I am sure that has a lot to do with it, but like Roger said, it makes no difference to the experience on here.
Harry P. Posted June 15, 2012 Author Posted June 15, 2012 For me, it's just not worth the hassle to have one. It doesn't make my experience here any different. Hassle? It takes about 12 seconds to add one.

It takes about 12 seconds to add one. Ok so it is just laziness , , just kidding guys
Chuck Most Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 Hassle? It takes about 12 seconds to add one. That is true- IF it takes. And sometimes it takes a couple of tries. That might be why Roger doesn't deem it worth the effort.
Jordan White Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 Here's a quick guide. 1: Click username in top right corner, click on "my settings" 2: Click "change my photo" 3a: Either click in the box "upload from file" and choose a photo (not sure on max size, but I'd suggest less than 750x750 pixels) 3b: or click on the box "import photo from URL" and paste in a URL of the picture from a photo sharing site. 4: click crop if you wish to move where the subject is placed, looks like you really can just move the crop box from side to side. 5: click "done" and voila, you should have an avatar.
mikemodeler Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 I'm in the 90% Me too! I have also made it a point to learn how to use the new digital camera my son bought us the other day at Best Buy before he leaves for college in 9 weeks!
Guest Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 Hassle? It takes about 12 seconds to add one. Yeah, maybe if you already have the photo resized, square, etc.etc. Then, it's IF the forum accepts the photo. Then if it doesn't,you gotta go find another photo, resize, square etc. etc. again.
Lunajammer Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 With some members, people I know, and not just older ones, they just want to enjoy models and related discussions and their eyes glaze over at words like pixel count, import and photo manipulation. The finer points of computer fluency I think is still a troublesome hassle for those who have no curiosity for it and just want to use it as a tool rather than as a craft.
JasonFL Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 I'd say that 90% don't know how to add one. I'm part of that 90%. I have tried twice and for some reason couldn't get it to work to save my life.
Jordan White Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 Yeah, maybe if you already have the photo resized, square, etc.etc. Then, it's IF the forum accepts the photo. Edsel-Dan Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 never had one on any forum. Did not know how to make/upload one. Rather read the forums anyway

Danno Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 I don't have an avatar, I just have a rather nice portrait image of myself.
Harry P. Posted June 15, 2012 Author Posted June 15, 2012 If anyone wants to add an avatar but doesn't know how, can't get it to work, etc... PM me and attach the photo you want to use as your avatar and I'll take care of it for you.
