Harry P. Posted June 15, 2012 Author Posted June 15, 2012 what purpose does it serve? None, really. It's just a way to personalize your posts.
Jon Cole Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 (edited) What purpose does an avatar serve? That's like asking what purpose does our name serve! It helps ID you, for us. It is in addition to your name; not 100% neccessary, just helpful. Edited June 15, 2012 by Jon Cole
Jon Cole Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 what purpose does it serve? Like asking.... Clothing. What purpose does it serve? Don't know.... but I'm real glad most people have it!
Guest Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 I think my screen name, plus my real name below it is enough to identify who I am.
Harry P. Posted June 15, 2012 Author Posted June 15, 2012 I think my screen name, plus my real name below it is enough to identify who I am. Yep. You're that white silhouette on the black background!
Harry P. Posted June 15, 2012 Author Posted June 15, 2012 In case anyone missed my previous post, if you want an avatar but haven't been able to figure out how to do it, or it just hasn't worked for you, PM me and attach the image you want to use and I'll take care of it.
my name is nobody Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 once upon a time I used an avatar that must have offended a few people. because a moderator, who shall remain nameless ( I'll give you a hint, his name sounds like a urinary tract infection) sent me a message asking me to remove it. I thought it was pretty funny.
Jordan White Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 Then again maybe it isn't ... when I look at the above post it show's the avatar as a screen grab from the gif and not a moving image whereas when I look at it in my profile it's a moving image . What do others see there ? It's probably a limitation with the forum software, in order to reduce the amount of bandwidth for the main forum pages. It does work when you go into your profile, however they must not allow the gifs to move on the main page.
Joe Handley Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 I wonder that too sometimes, I also wonder why people dont show their age. I would have to agree with Name Full, probably dont know how to do it, or just dont care enough to Got an easy answer for the age thing, would you believe some people were as old as, or as mature a that age they claimed to be by looking at what they post on line and their general behavior on line? I've seen adults throw bigger temper tantrums than some kids when I worked the service desk at Toy's "R" Us if you refused to refund them the money the spent on something we didn't even sell.
Bartster Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 Yep. You're that white silhouette on the black background! .....HEY! l thought that was me!!!!
Harry P. Posted June 15, 2012 Author Posted June 15, 2012 .....HEY! l thought that was me!!!! Sorry, I get you two mixed up. You look so much alike!
Danno Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 Sorry, I get you two mixed up. You look so much alike! They both show a strong resemblance to Frosty the Snowman!
Guest Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 Yep. You're that white silhouette on the black background! Only to people who are too lazy to move their eyes and read.
Jon Cole Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 Only to people who are too lazy to move their eyes and read. ...or too lazy to post an avatar. :P

dustym Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 (edited) Wow that was pretty easy. Even us almost old timers can try. Edited June 15, 2012 by dustym
Guest Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 ...or too lazy to post an avatar. :P I had an avatar at one time,so no that isn't the case. If it doesn't bother me that I don't have an avatar,I see no reason it should bother anyone else. I do have avatars on the other forums I belong to.
sjordan2 Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 Personally, I appreciate seeing avatars because they make it easier and faster to scan through a thread to see who's posting without having to stop and read a screen name. "Yeah, it's that guy," and I see what he's saying. On another note, I also had a signature image for a long time that recently seemed to me to take up too much space in a thread, so I dumped it today.
TooOld Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 Hey Inspector Callahan ! How about starting a topic about why we chose the avatar we use ? Might be interesting . We all know why you picked yours ! BOB .

uncle potts Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 Ok, so my picture that I tried to download was too big. Now since I am a technomoron, how do I make it smaller, can't seem to figure it out.

You can use this program to resize it, in the program, click on file, click on open, find the photo you want, and select it, then in the program , select image, scroll down tell you see resize/resample, the in the box that says mega-pixel, type in 200, then go back to file, click save http://www.irfanview.com/
