Bartster Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 Yes, l cheat on you guys once in a while! But for some reason l can't post comments over there, so l just look. They must have done some rearranging recently as well. lt takes forever to get to any pictures, so l guess l lost my "mistress". l won't be going to see her anymore. Bart.
mikemodeler Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 They did a major overhaul last week, Monday & Tuesday I think and it is laid out differently. Not a big fan of the new layout ( yes, I sneak around too!) but it is probably like anything else, it will just take some time to get comfortable with it.
moparmagiclives Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 Don't tell anyone Bart, but her sister the magazine had been coming over once a month for a wile now. Don't feel so bad.
Lownslow Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 dont worry that site will start looking like this one soon enough they already layed out the foundation
Erik Smith Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 What's SAE? Is that the same as scaleautomag.com? Scale Auto Enthusiat - enthusiast is now omitted. I don't find there is much to browse there that I can't get here - there are a lot of the same posts and/or similar content. This forum is less cluttered an works on my mobile device too. The SA forum (the previous incarnation) was too busy with way too many categories.
iBorg Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 SAE dates back to its previous owner when SAE would take me more than half an hour to read. Model Cars hits me more often as a useful read. If they're both on a newstand, I'lll look at SAE first. Then I'll pick up the Model Cars mag. If I'm only going to buy one, it will be the Model Cars mag.
Nick Notarangelo Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 At one point in history all I would buy is sae cause well thats all I could find and through out the late 90s and on I grew a rather distane for SAE but it was the only mag I could find. But back in 2008 I stumbled across MCM by merr chance and found the forum shortly there after and never looked back. Better articals, nicer mag quality, and Gregg is open to constructive comments and or critizisums the SAE and over all a nicer person to deal with.
southpier Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 for what it's worth department ..... doesn't everyone "there" have the same common interest as everyone "here"? why the polarization? how about TRAK, scale motorcars, vintage drag, et cetera? are those sites no good because they don't publish a magazine? forums are different than magazin home pages. we're all in the hobby for the same reasons, give or take!
moparmagiclives Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 I get the Tamiya magazine on my phone from time to time. Pretty diverse.
Bartster Posted July 14, 2012 Author Posted July 14, 2012 for what it's worth department ..... doesn't everyone "there" have the same common interest as everyone "here"? why the polarization? how about TRAK, scale motorcars, vintage drag, et cetera? are those sites no good because they don't publish a magazine? forums are different than magazin home pages. we're all in the hobby for the same reasons, give or take! .......Thanks southpier! You are right. lt's not a loyalty issue, it's a hobby issue. l will look at those other sites cuz l love the hobby. l've never heard of them.
crazyjim Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 I can't believe you cheat on us, Bart. Disgusting. I want a divorce. I haven't subscribed to SAE since before the internet. I guess if you don't subscribe to their magazine you can't use their website. It really doesn't matter to me because I'm very happy here - even if Gregg doesn't reply to my emails.
sjordan2 Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 The neat thing is that MCM views SAM as complementary to the hobby and has no problem with reference to that magazine and site. It's not reciprocal.
martinfan5 Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 I grew up reading SAE, I havent read an SAE in 10 years or longer, I joined the SAE website few years ago, I have spent maybe a totoal of ten minutes on the site, never posted anything. I am on a lot of other model forums, but I spend most of time on here
Lunajammer Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 I don't think there is as much polarization between the two as some members here would think. No question there are loyalists, and I'll bet most people here are dual members or were at one time members of SA. I'll always have a sentimental place for SA, but that said, I've let my subscription run out and I only check the forum every few weeks. Maybe with upgrades SA site will be better but I'm here because there are just WAY more quick loading photos, more discussion, more topics, more participation from known hobby insiders, more energy, more models... just more. And as mentioned before, freedom of speech. Not really trying to make comparisons, just saying where they fit in my online reading.

slusher Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 Ihave been a member of scale auto forum for almost 7 years. they really upset most members changing it yet again. many long time members have left l have been hanging around over here alot. l will go over to scale auto forum some but have not been posting very little. you don't have to get a subscrition to use thier forum...Slusher
crazyjim Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 My mistake about SA. I was/am registered there but never go there. It appears to me that you can't see everything unless you're a magazine subscriber. I can't get to the How To articles. I've been trying to get the upcoming FAST model contest posted there but can't figure it out.
Bartster Posted July 15, 2012 Author Posted July 15, 2012 We're havin' some fun here, huh, Bart? ......Always havin fun here! l don't remember the last day l didn't at least look in!? l don't always have time to post any comments, but l like to see what the fellas are up to.
Steven Zimmerman Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 I subscribe to both magazines, read both forums, and belong to another 20 or so internet / facebook groups.I like both , but think MCM forum is easier to 'navigate'.Some months issures of MCM are better, sometimes SA(no E) is better, I'm just glad we HAVE both to read and enjoy....'Z'
dimebolt Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 Can't we all just get along? LOL. I am a member to almost every model car building forum I can find. The reason for this is that there is sooo much modeling knowledge all across the board in every forum that it's just mind boggling. To me it's just like school, or any knowledge base for that matter. Why not soak in as much knowledge as you possibly can? I come to the forums not only to post my work, but to get inspiration, and to gain as much and knowledge as I possibly can. Yes some forums may be better in some ways than others, but I think they all for the most part are a great tool in our hobby, and we are fortunate to have places like this to frequent. I just have a love for this hobby, and am grateful for the great people I've talked to, and learned from. Whatever makes this hobby stronger is okay in my book. Corey
Harry P. Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 doesn't everyone "there" have the same common interest as everyone "here"? why the polarization? I think the main reason behind the "rivalry" (if any) between the MCM and SA forums is the fact that both forums are associated with magazines that are "rivals." Most other online modeling forums don't have a magazine associated with them, so there's less of a sense of competition or rivalry between them.
mopar68 Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 I stopped in at SA the other day (haven't been there in ages) and yea, real different now. I hope that's not the final format because I got kinda lost lol
Danno Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 I think the main reason behind the "rivalry" (if any) between the MCM and SA forums is the fact that both forums are associated with magazines that are "rivals." Most other online modeling forums don't have a magazine associated with them, so there's less of a sense of competition or rivalry between them. In my opinion, the most interesting thing about that "rivalry" between the two forums ... which, yes, are extensions of the respective, rival magazines ... is this: Here, the forum owner recognizes that his rival is a reality and exists. Here, the forum owner is secure enough in his magazine's (and forum's) place in the grand scheme of things that he is not psychotically-threatened by the mere mention of his rival's name. Here, legitimate and thoughtful discussions can take place that include the reality that this forum and the associated magazine are not the only model-car-related media on the planet. There, not so. Mention MCM or MCM Forum ... and *poof* ... I buy and read both Model Cars Magazine and the Scale Auto pamphlet each time an issue comes out. My overall preference may be self-evident, but as has been said, once in awhile SA(noE) has a good article or two. Seldom anymore does it have a really good issue. Model Cars Magazine has not lost its enthusiasm, and it once in awhile has a throw-away article. But seldom does it ever NOT have a great issue. To each his own, viva la difference, viva la choice! So says me.
