Unatural Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 That's my opinion anyway. I came up with the idea for this truck back in '98 and would still love to actually build one. With many other projects in the way though, it won't be happening any time soon. Anyway, I built this truck a few years ago now but just found this forum not too long ago and have been amazed at some of the stuff I've seen. I hope you guys enjoy it.
Models by Bear Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 I agree that would have been a cool ride to have nice work
Sixties Sam Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Sweet! Ford might have sold a bunch of those! Sam
Scuderia Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 thas way too cool. I love the bodywork and the underhood fit n finish. Just awesome!
Unatural Posted July 17, 2012 Author Posted July 17, 2012 Thanks. This was my first attempt at doing any real modifications to a model and the first model I had built in several years. Overall I was happy with how it turned out (although I didn't see it until I was done that the underside of the bed should have been black too). For the paint, I just used a Testor's copper spray paint for the base, then used my airbrush and sprayed 3 coats of House of Kolor Kandy Tangerine, then a clear coat over that.
Unatural Posted July 17, 2012 Author Posted July 17, 2012 (edited) The reason why I said that though is because I painted the underside of the cab black, but didn't match the bed to it. Oh well though, there's always next time. Here are a few shots that I took while I was putting it together. Edited July 17, 2012 by Unatural
Scuderia Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Did you use the orig. chassis and motor mounts for the 5.0 or did u use a modified stang chassis?
Unatural Posted July 17, 2012 Author Posted July 17, 2012 The K member/motor mounts and rear end were from the Mustang, but the chassis/frame rails was still the truck. If I remember correctly, I used the rear springs from the truck model and modified them to become a coil over front spring. I had to work on the stance of everything before I did any final fitment of the pieces, but in the back, I just made some mounts for the upper and lower control arms to attach to and glued them in place.
Olskoolrodder Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 (edited) Now THAT would get me into another Ranger,it would! NICELY converted,my friend! (FWIW,the main reason I moved from Rangers to Dimes,S0's,is the cost of slamming them is a fraction of what it costs to slam a Ranger...though I believe "LO RANGE" would make a killer vanity plate ) Edited July 20, 2012 by Olskoolrodder
Unatural Posted July 20, 2012 Author Posted July 20, 2012 Thanks for the kind words guys. Hopefully one of these days I'll be able to sit my model on the intake manifold of my 1:1 version at a show. I'm sure I'd get some questions from that.
JasonFL Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 I'll admit I'm not a huge fan of the ranger or the mustang but the way you did this was just clean. I was expecting something totally different but you nailed it. Blended everything nicely without over doing it, nice work.
JasonFL Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Btw, welcome to the site. There's a lot of great people with lots of great advice on here.
Unatural Posted July 20, 2012 Author Posted July 20, 2012 Thanks, I appreciate it. I haven't even touched the surface of this site yet, but what I've seen so far has been amazing. I'm looking forward to learning more things for sure.
