We've talked about favorite

cars, kits, and who knows what all else. I was just wondering, moving into my new home sorting and moving tons of books, just what your favorite automotive book is?

Hard to pick one...I have a number of books that I like, incl. biographies and other books by auto industry people like Lee Iacocca, Bob Lutz, John DeLorean.

Some racing-related books I particularly like are:

'Go Like Hell' about the Ford GT40 program

Porsche 917: The Undercover Story

Vic Elford: Reflections on a Golden Age

The Unfair Advantage (Mark Donohue)

Racing in the Rain: My Years with Brilliant Drivers, Legendary Sports Cars, and a Dedicated Team

Senna vs Prost (and a 1/2 dozen other books on Senna)

Currently reading 'The Limit: Life and Death in the 1961 Grand Prix Season'....

For picture books, I have a bunch of coffee-table books I like incl. one on the Otis Chandler muscle car collection, one on Boulevard Photographic (vintage car advertising), one on Lotus in F1 in the '60s, Alan de La Plante's book on Gilles Villeneuve (which has great pics of many drivers and cars of the late '70s-early '80s F1 era), etc..

Speed Duel by Sam Hawley. The story of the rivalry between the Arfons and Craig Breedlove. A cracking read about the days when you could still knock up a land speed car in your shed from used parts.

and for research I'm always going back to Gasser Wars by Larry Davis.

I agree with all of the above, especially 'Gasser Wars' and 'The Birth of Hot Rodding', however, recently I discovered this one at the California Auto Museum gift shop in Sacramento and so far it's a great read! Highly recommended.

I liked "Speed Duel" but I thought it should have been titled "Jet Duel" they really dropped the ball on the wheel driven cars of the '60's ie, Mickey Thompson's Challenger and only a sentence on the Summers Brothers long time record holder "Golden Rod".

True Greg, but I guess he had to draw the line somewhere or the book would have been huge.
