Similar headlights, but the proportions are completely different...in profile, it's basically the G8 with a new nose and tail.

I know, I was just saying that its very close to the Malibu, thats all ;):D

Could have sworn I saw one here in West Chicago with our PD's markings on it a few nights back that was patroling a local parking lot, I also thought I saw an unmarked Explorer a few days before that and an unmarked Taurus since New Years here in town too. The Taurus has been a rare sight (only saw it twice, only at night), the Caprice is too new to here (plus that was from a longer distance on top of being at night), and I have no clue on the Explorer so far (just barely caught the lights when I realized it had a pushbar on it).

Wouldnt be surprised at all if that happens

So that is what they are going to do with the wore out cop cars! Guess some things never change.

You know some cities will not allow full size cars for taxi's any more.

Nope...this is a serious RWD car w/ a V8...the Malibu is a FWD 4cyl rental car.

Hey! We got a V6 LTZ with leather, paddle shifters, 18s, and all that jazz as our family car...its a bad machine for a v6 family car. :D But seriously, beyond the main front clip, it looks a ton like a Malibu in that picture...amd I like how GM is doing rear windows that roll ALL the way down in more cars now.

Im just glad to see we are getting some version of that Caprice, by any name or length, for civilians. Now if they just don't blotch the whole deal by leaving out a stick shift option.

Well thats what they have been doing with them for years, and you can always tell, well with cabs that are painted colors other then white, when the doors open, and there is a white door jams on a yellow car, or like here , green cabs with white door jams

There are a lot of new cabs being made, I know Nissan has made a cab, the ford tranist is being made as a cab, plus all the other ones

Plus you have this one, be warned, its ugly , not sure if this going to happen

Not likely now that they no longer make Hummer 2s for GM...thank goodness too. That thing looks like someone at Tonka had a momentary lapse of reason....that or staples had a clearance on yellow poster board. :P

I wish...

1. I could get the long-wheelbase car in civilian trim.

2. WHY oh why won't they start making the Commodore Estate for us!? Those, from what I'm told, are almost the same capacity as a B-body wagon and will also tow nearly as much.

That said, this car could very well end up on my short-list if life begins to work well for me.

That taxi looks better than the Hummer..

Similar to your G8(rebadged Holden Commodore) but it's got a longer wheel base of the Holden Statesman, the GTO was just a rebadged Monaro. You guys got the ute to didn't you?

Apparently according to an article in a motoring mag I read Australia is the only country in the world that's population still want high powered rear wheel drive sedans for family cars.

Cheers Rob

They were supposed to bring us the Ute as a Pontiac, and then when Pontiac was closed down by GM, there was brief talk of it coming up as a new Chevy El Camino.

Hasn't happened, and with the pinheads running GM now, I doubt it will.

Oh- the other thing I'd like to see with these new cars- six-passenger seating. I'm not so much into performance as I simply prefer a large, rear-wheel car with V8 power.

I saw one of those new XTSs on the lot- man, is that thing ugly. It looks like a malformed Cruze on sterioids and then badly-proportioned at that. It's almost like shoving my cousin (54 Large) into a 42 short.... no V8, no six-passenger seating, and bad styling. No sale.

 In all of it's ugliness, that is 100% true. Hopefully we will be getting a lot more cars like the Caprice and the SS for commercial and enforcement AND civilian use. I think the era of the uber big SUVs is coming to an end and making way for this.

The XTS is a weak effort..it's based on the LaCrosse platform (Epsilon II)....the wheelbase is 4 inches shorter than the DTS, which was a decent car, though FWD. The XTS is tall, narrow, with very short front and rear.. The XTS is going to have a 4cyl as the base engine next year I've read.

I like my STS (RWD, V6)....if I replace it with another Caddy, I'll probably go for a CTS. Though I like the Chrysler 300 quite a bit.

Sorry, none of them have any style or class. Man, I miss the 60's and early 70's.

I wasn't quite around then, but I do agree- the cars, for the most part, were much, much better looking. Designed by artists and sculptors, not style-less engineers who would probably mix plaid and polka-dot, assuming you could even get a lot of the current crop to dress respectably.

I thought they were going with a column shift? I was actually somewhat surprised to see the Taurus cruiser didn't have one.

Maybe this will start the way back to a six-passenger car. Add in a perimeter frame and I'll be completely happy....

I think the new Holden's have a nice shape and style to them, certainly nicer than some boring old FWD family hack.

If you guys had've got the ute here's what it might've looked like.

This was built out of a VE ute, the guy that built it converts others too. B)

VE ute meets Camaro, this thing looks tuff as.

It's nice to see something new from GM that doesn't have that FWD look that I'm tired of. Front wheels too close to the leading edge of the door, and too much front overhang. It's one of the reasons I dislike FWD for larger cars..........the proportions are always too goofy to my eyes. This being RWD is a good thing!

This one has some nice proportions and certainly has a "Chevy" look to it.

As far as cars from the '60's and '70's with style...........well to me that's a toss-up as I can name a few that I always thought were boring. I can remember LOTS of '50's cars on the road as a little kid in the early '60's so I noticed a contrast to what was already made, and some of the newer shapes coming out in the later '60's into the '70's. Styling is subjective, so not all shapes can be everyone's cup of tea. ;)
