martinfan5 Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 (edited) Starting this one next, its the Tamiya 2012 Toyota 86 Japan Version , this is one of three different kits on this car that has been released. This car will be sold in the US under the Scion name. My plan for this one is doing like I have it in the game Grand Turismo 5 This is what I am going to try and build And the body Edited August 20, 2012 by martinfan5
streetmachine11 Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 ive been looking at getting this kit. ill be wathing your build for sure.
Mooneyzs Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Jonathan.... This is going to be an awesome build bud!!! Great looking car. I look forward to progress on this one.
martinfan5 Posted August 22, 2012 Author Posted August 22, 2012 Getting some paint on the body, I am using Model Master Chrysler yellow lacquer, it has a few mist coats , waiting for the Humidity to drop and waiting to see if its going to rain again before I do the wet coats and the chassis
captin Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 i like, i work at a toyota dealer ship and those cars in person are super nice except in america they are scion FR-S but i love what youve done with it so far looks great cant wait to see more
martinfan5 Posted August 23, 2012 Author Posted August 23, 2012 So it appears that I got the chassis wrong, I found a pic of the bottom of a completed one ( guessing by Tamiya) and the chassis is a mix of body color and black
martinfan5 Posted August 23, 2012 Author Posted August 23, 2012 Getting some work done on this, here is what I have done This the top bottom half of the engine and front wheel well piece and this is the top part of the engine detail
martinfan5 Posted August 24, 2012 Author Posted August 24, 2012 Working on the chassis and getting it painted
lanesteele240 Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 Just cant figure why they just dont make an engine for their kits. Would love to see this thing with the hood up. Billions of kids dont even know that models have engines. Any way your build looks great.
martinfan5 Posted August 25, 2012 Author Posted August 25, 2012 The chassis is almost done and here is the engine detail and started working on the interior
martinfan5 Posted August 29, 2012 Author Posted August 29, 2012 Been working on the interior, I used flat black and semi gloss black, I shot dull coat over the semi gloss Here is the engine detail almost done and chassis is finished other then the brake rotars , but I am waiting tell the wheels I bought get here before I put them on. And now the not so good update, the paint needed to be wetsanded and polished, everything was going good, but I burned through a few spots, but didnt catch it tell I was polishing and that made it bigger I was going to try and fix the spot, so I masked the body and sprayed that area, well that didnt work, and I left the making tape on too long, so the body was covered with the tape residue . So I am stripping the paint and going to start over Sometimes I just want to give up building models
martinfan5 Posted August 30, 2012 Author Posted August 30, 2012 Here is the start of the body mods, I add a strip of styrene to the side of the body on the inside so the bondo has something to stick to , and did the same on the front bumper as well
Kmidd65 Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 Man, that was looking sweet! Instead of stripping next time, give good old WD-40 a try first. That stuff is great for removing tape residue. This build will be cool when finished!
martinfan5 Posted September 2, 2012 Author Posted September 2, 2012 Man, that was looking sweet! Instead of stripping next time, give good old WD-40 a try first. That stuff is great for removing tape residue. This build will be cool when finished! Thanks for the tip, I will try that next time
martinfan5 Posted September 2, 2012 Author Posted September 2, 2012 Making a little progress, getting closer to getting the ground effects done, its not going to be exactly like the pic, but close enough for me
martinfan5 Posted September 3, 2012 Author Posted September 3, 2012 Thanks guys I am getting closer I think, I just got done filling some holes and sanding some lines out of it, going to hit it with some primer again and see if I am ready to paint it
