Metalmad Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Was able to see this build today at the NNL West show & even though the build is not finished yet it looks awesome !
squirrel886 Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 I saw this up close and personal today at the NNL. The pics don't do any justice and is even better in person.
Art Laski Posted February 2, 2014 Author Posted February 2, 2014 Hey guys,Thank you all for the nice comments. I'm glad some of you got to see it at the NNL West yesterday. I really wanted to have it done in time to take there, but it just didn't happen. Next year, I guess...
Art Laski Posted February 2, 2014 Author Posted February 2, 2014 (edited) Art... beautiful work brother!! Man is it gorgrous. Were the rod ends from RB Motion? I cant wait to see the next update.Hey Chris, I made the rod ends out of styrene rod and guitar string, then I painted them with Testors Aluminum Plate Metalizer as a base and Alclad Transparent Red over that. I think I posted pics of how I made them earlier in the thread, but it was over a year ago, so I'm not surprised you didn't see it.Thanks for looking, my friend.Art Edited February 2, 2014 by Art Laski
PARTS GUY Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Very cool stuff. Always enjoy watching you guys scratch build and make things work.
FASTBACK340 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Including the fix no one had to know about. Thanks for showing us we all have stuff that happens to a project and how to properly deal with it. I found my own quote funny after I stepped on my project today!
Art Laski Posted February 4, 2014 Author Posted February 4, 2014 (edited) So, here's what it looked like at the show. It turned out to be kind of a popular display, which caught me by surprise. Edited February 4, 2014 by Art Laski
charlie8575 Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Art, that's absolutely gorgeous. I'm really looking forward to seeing what the final result will be. Someday, I will make it out to NNL-West. California is a nice improvement over New England most years, even if just for an extended weekend. Charlie Larkin
Ira Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 I saw your Willys at NNL West! The Paint Job is Beautiful...
FASTBACK340 Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Art, that's absolutely gorgeous. I'm really looking forward to seeing what the final result will be. Someday, I will make it out to NNL-West. California is a nice improvement over New England most years, even if just for an extended weekend. Charlie Larkin I spent 9 days in Old Town, San Diego on vacation a few years ago. Wow…. what a beautiful part of the country. Every day was beautiful…. nothing looks weather-beaten and old. Nothing looks like it's been painted over multiple times to hide rust & corrosion. I look at NYC and sometimes it reminds me of a futuristic image of the decay of mankind. Then I realize it's just my hometown….. Yeah, I'd love to have a reason to head West again. Just to convince my Wife why we need to be there…. Model Show is a good start. And as for Art being surprised over the attention, your being humble. That Willy's looks almost too good to assemble. All those fine points will be hard to see….
Danno Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Wow, Art! I can't believe I have missed this thread for all this time. Found it and read it from start to finish today. Glad I did. Very impressive! Hope to see it at Desert Scale Classic 10. {There's plenty of time to button her up and polish her off!}
Dr. Cranky Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Fantastic build so far. I look forward to seeing it assembled.
Art Laski Posted February 7, 2014 Author Posted February 7, 2014 (edited) Thank you guys! With the injection, I needed to make a fuel pump to go along with it. I thought about using the fuel pump from the Monogram sprint car kit, but it's just a little too bulky. So I decided to make my own, using the cap from the sprint Hilborn pump. beeRS Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Nice work on that fuel pump! Model looks amazing in the NNL show pictures.
John Teresi Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Art…..what`s up Brother?……..any up-dates?……..I got Willys on the brain…….we need an up-date
Mooneyzs Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Oh Art.... That fuel pump looks killer brother. But I gotta tell you I am having some width drawls from this project. Any updates for us??
Art Laski Posted February 19, 2014 Author Posted February 19, 2014 I've been working on it, but just little adjustments to accommodate some of the scratch-built parts, so there's not much to show. I had to shorten the fuel pump a little and make some fittings for the fuel and oil lines. I'll have more pics up soon, and thanks for checking in!
Art Laski Posted February 28, 2014 Author Posted February 28, 2014 OK guys, thanks for "check"-ing in! I finally have a few more pics for you. I spent quite a bit of time figuring out the brake details, but I think I ended up with something I like. Here are a few shots of the brake lines and fittings and the master cylinder. a few more...
Art Laski Posted February 28, 2014 Author Posted February 28, 2014 (edited) After all the modifications I made to the rear suspension, the stock exhaust just didn't fit anymore. So I decided to reroute the rear portion. Luckily, I just happened to have some solder that was the exact thickness of the pipes. I cut them at the muffler and made new pieces that are pinned and I can insert them separately through the suspension. It should be all downhill from here! Thanks for looking! Davewilly Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Beautiful! I have a question about the solder. What do you use to attach it...super glue epoxy? I havent used it yet as headers or exhaust yet.
gasser59 Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Gorgeous rework Art. Glad to see an update. That truly is "art".
