jdcar32 Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 This is one of Tom Hoovers excellant resin kits. The build will also use the AMT '58 Edsel for all detail items, both cars have the same wheelbase so the kit chassis fits wheel with only minor adjustments. The interior is another matter. ALOT of scratch building will take place for the doors, etc. I'm thinking 2 tone paint, poverty caps, the big 352 motor, and a 3 on the tree.
cobraman Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 Looks like a nice resin piece. Good luck with your build.
Custom Mike Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 You sure picked a unique one Jon, I can't wait to see it come together!
Ace-Garageguy Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 This looks like it's going to be very special. Lookin' great so far.
MrObsessive Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 Man, you are BRAVE cutting open doors on a resin body! The bodywork is looking great.............I'd support that dogleg windshield frame as soon as I could though! It looks mighty fragile!
charlie8575 Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 This looks like it'll be a nice build. How do we contact this resin-caster? Charlie Larkin
Bartster Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 This has got to be the ugliest Ford ever made! & that, to me, makes it a very cool & interesting build. l'll keep watching! Bart.
SSNJim Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 (edited) Very nice - I'll be watching. One of the cars I learned to drive in was my grandfather's 59 300. Manual steering and brakes, automatic, I believe it was six cylinder, solid black with a red and white reupholstered interior. I'd like to know how to contact the caster, too, especially a web site. Lunajammer Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 The quality of your photos alone might be enough to hold my interest. Looks like you've got a good grip on where this needs to go.
Pat Minarick Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 Man, you are BRAVE cutting open doors on a resin body! The bodywork is looking great.............I'd support that dogleg windshield frame as soon as I could though! It looks mighty fragile! How did you cut them out?
Gluhead Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 You are one brave soul... I'll be watching this one!
jdcar32 Posted October 23, 2012 Author Posted October 23, 2012 How did you cut them out? I grind a chisel point on the tip of a #11 X-acto blade ( or you can use a dull throw away blade ) so it's not so fragile at the point , then scribe the panel lines . Resin actually scribes easily. Scribe each panel 90% through before you completely release any of the panels so you maintain as much strength as possible in the body. Take your time and remember mistakes are just a drop of C.A. away for repairs. Good luck!!
Joker Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 The side of the bumper doesn't have a mold seam. Did you use Alaclad or is it part of the resin kit?
bigphoto Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 Very cool! for interior pieces maybe some from the Revell 59 Ford retractable might work.
Duntov Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 Nice work Jon......... keep it going!!!! This is going to be fun!!!!!!!!!!
jdcar32 Posted October 24, 2012 Author Posted October 24, 2012 The side of the bumper doesn't have a mold seam. Did you use Alaclad or is it part of the resin kit? The complete chrome package comes with the kit, nice no seams or tree boogers. Contact Tom Hoover : promolite@aol.com . He has many unusual and seldom seen kits.
