I kind of like the alligator like finish though.. Anybody know if the later issues of the Jo-Han Rambler kit have the same rear bumper and taillights? My kits is missing the bumper and one taillight. Can we see a better shot of the rear end? It may give us a better idea if the taillights or bumper from a later edition might work.

With corona virus keeping me away from work, the timing of the purchase could not have been better. This a fairly recent addition the Haynes Manuals of books. And another good one. It's written by Matt Irvine, who several years ago wrote a great book, Creating Space, The Story of the Space Age Told Through Models. I like his style of writing, and seems to be very knowledgeable on the subject of building plastic models in general. This latest book, Haynes Model Builders' Manual, he seems cover everything one could want to know about model building. All types of models. Aircraft, Ships, Automotive, Military, Space and science fiction, and Figures. He even touchs on Railroads and Dolls' houses. Thought very little on those two. Because he feels they are generally out of the scope of this book. Matt covers the history, the tools, glues, paints, basic skills, decals, dioramas, collecting, and even clubs. You name it. He seams to cover it. On the bottom of cover is says, "A practical introduction to building plastic model construction kits". Making one think it's mainly aimed the beginning model builders only. I've been building models for 55 years now. And I found plenty of new information in the book, that will hopefully make me a better builder in the future. For the old or new builder, I feel this book is worth adding to ones collection, and reading. Speaking of books on models. I've been hunting for a series of two books on model car building, I believe was published sometime in the early 1970's. My junior high school library had a set at the time. I don't know the exact title, or who authored the books. The first book was on basic model car building. The second on more advanced techniques. I also remember one of the two volumes the author had pictures of a model Parnelli Jones '64 (or '63?) Mercury stock car. I also remember pictures of a diorama of a hot rod show? Anybody out their have any idea of the two books I'm talking about. Scott, I think the book/books you are looking for are by Dennis Doty. It was originally just one book published by TAB publishing in 1981 and was called The Complete Book of Model Car Building. In 1989 it was separated into 2 books one called Model Car Building, Getting Started and the other Model Car Building Advanced Techniques.

Snake45 Posted March 27, 2020 Posted March 27, 2020 The '66-'69 taillights are rectangular, not rounded on the ends. Doesn't look like it would be too hard to make one of those. Rear bumper might fit. But the '66-'69 kits are getting dear, too, even the late reissues of the SC/Ramber.

Unless the librarians at Center Junior High in Columbia Heights, MN were able to time travel. I saw the books im thinking about in their library back in 1971-73.
unclescott58 Posted March 27, 2020 Posted March 27, 2020 Here's my latest. My next large engine kit. Looking forward to start working on it right away.
moparfarmer Posted March 27, 2020 Posted March 27, 2020 Scott, on a different topic how about any news on NNL North..
Exotics_Builder Posted March 27, 2020 Posted March 27, 2020 Just got this today in a trade. Box not pristine and a couple of damaged parts, but it is going to be built anyway

Okay, I just got off the phone with Bob Hood. Our fearless leader of the MCCM. He says that at this point no one knows for sure. But, he's doubtful it's going to happen. That, plus we're not so sure the boarder between Canada and the US should ever be reopened. Look at the riffraff like you coming across the boarder every spring. ? (Or did they close the board to keep us from contaminating you guys?) All joking aside. If I hear anything I'll let you know. Edited March 28, 2020 by unclescott58

If you can't get the tail light you need think about using the clear red spruce from another kit. Sometimes there will be a flat section on the spruce that could be shaped to what you need here.

The tail light lens can be replicated very easily. Press the one you have into some mold material or silly putty to make a mold then fill the mold with clear 2 part epoxy. When it's cured, paint it with some transparent red. Simple. Steve

Steve Thanks for all the replies - Yup, fortunately it’s a simple shape. Carving one from styrene would be ok, but it has small ribs that wouldn’t be easy to do. I have some casting stuff around but I think it’s probably all bad from time and sitting idle. I’ll give the putty trick a try though!

That is a cool kit. I have one of those in my to build pile. Not sure if you're aware but they also issued that kit with non-transparent parts as well. Basically all of the clear Parts in the kit you have were grey styrene instead. I have one of each and I was thinking about kind of mixing and matching it to make it look a bit like one of the old cutaway engines where some of it you can see and some of it you can't. I thought that would look kind of cool.

I’ll give the putty trick a try though! Check old custom tail light lenses. Some should have ribs like that. Without looking, I'd check the AMT '69 Riviera. IIRC, the custom lens is large enough to carve several from and may have the same ribs.

Then I keep the molds in a plastic bag for future use. Steve

Very easy to mix and you only mix up what you need, no waste. Start to finish your mold is ready in less than half an hour. I buy it with 40% off coupon at Hobby Lobby, only about $16 or $18, very reasonable. I've made quite a few little molds from it and have hardly put a dent in the amount. Did I mention it's WONDERFUL stuff?
Mr mopar Posted March 28, 2020 Posted March 28, 2020 I finally scored this kit …. and now to do this with it ! I got photo etch and the new wynn's decals coming soon .
