Dr. Cranky Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 (edited) Here's my opinion of what is wrong with automobile design in the last 50 year. If it is true that this is going to be the new El Camino, then I'll save my money and buy me a car built before 1970. Edited December 6, 2012 by Dr. Cranky
Harry P. Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 That's a pretty old concept. It has a PONTIAC badge on it!
camarofreak82_427 Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 thats kinda ugly. maybe lower the bedline a little. and square up the rearend to match the shape of the front and it might look better but im sure its cheap made and wont last long at all compared to the abuse of the old elkys
martinfan5 Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 (edited) I like it, that is a Holden UTE re-badged as a Pontiac http://www.holden.com.au/vehicles/ute I think it looks better then something from the 70's , and better creature comforts You know, this is 2012, styling from 70's is long gone Edited December 6, 2012 by martinfan5
Craig Irwin Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 They say GM still has a styling department but nobody knows what they do all day. I vote with the pre '70 idea.
cobraman Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 I don't care much for this at all but I wonder if the market wouldn't like to see a Ranchero and El Camino again.
Scale-Master Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 I'd consider buying that to replace my '72 Chevy truck. Could probably replace one of my Camaro's with it too at the same time. Seems like a win/win. You know..., you can like the older stuff and the newer stuff at the same time, each is not exclusive of the other. I like my OLD Camaro as much as my NEW Corvette...
martinfan5 Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Whats the point of posting a photoshop image of a what if car from a Manufacture that is no longer around?, Could that be done as a Chevy version?, yes.

Good point, but that will be lost around here, I like older vehicles, dont get me wrong about that, but like you said, one can like more the just one era from the automobile world. For daily drivers, I want something from the last 15 years, but it would still be nice to take a classic out on the weekends
Longbox55 Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 It's not a Photoshop, it's the G8 Sport Truck concept from a few years back. GM axed Pontiac before it went into production. I have heard rumors it still may see production as a Chevrolet once the Caprice/SS goes into production.

I have heard rumors it still may see production as a Chevrolet once the Caprice/SS goes into production. I heard the rumors too, but figured it was dead when Pontiac was axed, I can see GM using the Chevy brand here to test waters with the new 2013 SS goes into production , but the GTO didnt do to well, but that I think is different story
2000-cvpi Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 I like it, a lot. It's not like the new Toyota Camry, a lousy Hyundai or another bland soul less econo box. Even though its an older design, it is much better than the average beige sedan. Something tells me that in the early 1970's there were guys that complained about the new Chevrolet Impala not looking as good as the 1935 Chevrolet.
Ace-Garageguy Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 I'd kinda like a last-gen GTO pickup. That would get my attention.
Chuck Kourouklis Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 ...Something tells me that in the early 1970's there were guys that complained about the new Chevrolet Impala not looking as good as the 1935 Chevrolet. ^This.^
Jordan White Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 That's not an abomination... THIS is an abomination! (What's interesting is if you do a Google search for "studecamino", there's a whole slew of these things!)
Austin T Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Waste the El Camino, what about the stude?!?!?! Theres a local that has a gold one and it's ugly, but cool at the same time.
Psychographic Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 The El Camino was never a stand alone body style from the windshield forward. So to all that said the Holdem Ute/ Pontiac is an abomination and ugly, what would you use as a base for a new El Camino?
Craig Irwin Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Something tells me that in the early 1970's there were guys that complained about the new Chevrolet Impala not looking as good as the 1935 Chevrolet. A 1970 Chevy doesn't look as good as a 1935 Chevy. Check prices, which one is worth more in equal condition?
mopar68 Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 It is a Holden Commodore ute- Just with an updated G8 front-
Jordan White Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 A 1970 Chevy doesn't look as good as a 1935 Chevy. Check prices, which one is worth more in equal condition? Well since you just said "a 1970 Chevy", then I could counter with a factory LS6 Chevelle.
Lownslow Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 (edited) GM should really figure out why they have 250k unsold trucks before bringing another one into the mix. Youre doing something wrong as a car company when people would rather buy a Ford,Ram, or Toyota over a Chevy truck. I know why people buy the latter being a former gm truck owner. would rather have the Aussie El Camino over is South American equivalent Edited December 7, 2012 by Lownslow
Cool Hand Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Personally I dont like the look of the current model Holden ute either. Sorry to stray away from the op mentioning the El-Camino ute But while we are on the topic of utes I much prefer the styling of Ford Australia's 2012 FPV GS ute.
RancheroSteve Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 A friend of mine owns something we call the "Thunderchero": And I came across this the other day on the street:
