Jantrix Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 My sons went out shopping this past week. I heard the distinctive sound of rattle cans coming from the shopping bags as they walked through the house. I only wish my wife was half as easy to buy for.
glusnifr Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 my wife and sons have ME make a list and they get stuff from the list ,this way they get me something i would want ,then everyones happy
slusher Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 Most of us model guys will take about any kit, it can always be traded or used for parts. l build whatever they give me....
Lunajammer Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 (edited) To a point. I've given instructions to dear ones, God bless them, to not buy me modeling stuff. I have too much of too much and have become selective of anything more. (And then of course I go out and buy the first $5 piece of busted up, flea market glue bomb I find... go figure) Edited December 22, 2012 by Lunajammer
High octane Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 I have SO many kits that it would be hard for someone to buy me anything that's model related. I pretty much buy what I want or need myself. My buddy is the same way so I got him a gift card to his favorite restaurant.
Agent G Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 My lovely wife and I are at the age where we have all the "stuff" we want or need. MrsG always says don't get me anything and I say the same. I do get her a card and we go to dinner as her bday is the 27th, but other than that, nothing. I quit smoking a year ago and one of the incentives was her telling me that the money saved on cigarettes could be used for my hobby. That my friends was a no brainer for me. So I get what I want, when I want it, and don't expect any gifts. I spend on her too, just I ask before hand. G
sjordan2 Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 I don't think the family and friends of a serious modeler have a clue what to buy in that area, unless they're given a very specific list. Easy to buy for? I think not.

JunkPile Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 (edited) Who else but us would be very happy with a box of 1000 round tooth picks and a bottle of Super Glue for a gift Edited December 23, 2012 by JunkPile
george 53 Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 After this long my wife and daughter ask me what I want,I tell them, and they go out and find it. I believe my daughter has a direct line to E-Bay or something, she finds ANYTHING there!
peter31a Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 As strange as it may sound we buy our own gifts and hand them over during the course of the year. We each have our own hobbies and it just works that way. I tend to forget what I've handed over so when they show up under the tree, for something to open on Christmas morning, I still end up surprised.... somewhat anyway. Why get stuff we don't need just to say you bought presents?
Draggon Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 All I have asked for, for the last 5 years is a Hobbytown gift card. Then they closed up shop. Now I ask for stereo equipment!
Tom Geiger Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Think about it. We don't need or want for anything. That in itself is a blessing!
Steven Zimmerman Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Last year for my birthday (one week before Christmas) my wife bought me an aluminite resin starter kit. one of the best gifts EVER ! Now we make a trip to Hobby Lobby twice a month...she makes jewelry, I need resin; those online 40% off coupons are great !.....'Z'
Mercman Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 That is why a gift certificate covers all bases. That's what my son does. He asks the owner of the LHS if I have anything waiting to be picked up, if not it's certificate time.
crazyjim Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 I order the model stuff I want online (there's boxes from Scale Dreams, Coast Airbrush, and Hobbylinc under the tree). Marcia always wants Barnes & Noble and/or iTunes gift cards. We just split up the credit card bill when it comes. Everybody is happy and no returns to worry about.
