ismaelg Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Hello Mark, Hope you remember me I can't believe I've been out of the hobby for about 6 years. But I just found this topic and couldn't help but to sit down and read each and every post from start to finish, 45+ pages. Impressive work as usual. Really refreshing. I brought back great memories about how much fun and rewarding scratchbuilding is. I just hope I can find the time to get back to it. At the same time you are both inspiring and raising the bar.... Looking forward to more updates and eventually see it finished.... Best Regards!
Scale-Master Posted October 23, 2014 Author Posted October 23, 2014 Thanks Ismael! Underhood insulation pad. Loosely dry fitted, I'll fasten it down smoothly after I paint the hood.
Mike Chernecki Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Thanks Ismael! Underhood insulation pad. Loosely dry fitted, I'll fasten it down smoothly after I paint the hood. Awesome build!! What did you use for the insulation pad? I have a roll of landscape fabric that looks nearly identical.
Scale-Master Posted October 23, 2014 Author Posted October 23, 2014 Thanks.I used Bounty brand paper towel and saturated it with Aileen's Tacky Glue. Then painted it after it dried. One side of those paper towels has a diamond pattern, the "back side" looks like this.

Scale-Master Posted October 23, 2014 Author Posted October 23, 2014 Select-A-Size?This was made from the full standard sized sheet. But the select-A-size I have has the same pattern.
Scale-Master Posted October 23, 2014 Author Posted October 23, 2014 I started adding the lettering to the hoses, wires and belts…
Scale-Master Posted October 24, 2014 Author Posted October 24, 2014 Thanks guys. This is a bit of a milestone for me on this project. The engine is permanently installed into the car. Still plenty to add to (and to make for) the engine, but it is starting to come together just several days shy of two full years.
Pete J. Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 Mark, you are going to miss working on this when it is done. Really coming together nicely. Glad I'm not going to go to the next GSL!
Scale-Master Posted October 24, 2014 Author Posted October 24, 2014 Pete, if I do it right I'll be satisfied when it is done and not miss working on it every day, (well at least for a few years if history repeats...). I can always come up with something else to put my energies into. Like that replica of my Z/28... Or my Kammback...

Beware the apocalypse is on us!! I do know what it is like to finish a long, long, long term project and be done with it. I think it will be great to see what is next.
Scale-Master Posted October 24, 2014 Author Posted October 24, 2014 To be fair I only built one Seven (the 1/24th scale V6 Seven) between finishing the blue one and starting this one. But I built a lot of other subjects... The oil tanks have been installed.
Superpeterbilt Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 I just discovered this thread, and my mind is blown. I dont even know what to say, except that I am thoroughly impressed. I have never seen such an amazing build. Im totally unfamiliar with this type of car but nonetheless, this is exceptional.
Scale-Master Posted October 28, 2014 Author Posted October 28, 2014 Thank you Terry. I machined a petcock to drain the radiator As well as the radiator cap and fittings for the oil cooler. Both the radiator and oil cooler have actual flow-through cores.
Harry P. Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 What did you use to make the fins on the oil cooler?
Scale-Master Posted October 29, 2014 Author Posted October 29, 2014 I’ve lost track of the actual amount of wire and hose I’ve used in the engine bay, but it is measured in feet, not just inches.
Harry P. Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Very thin aluminum. Details? How did you get that shape? Is it PE? Machined?
Scale-Master Posted October 29, 2014 Author Posted October 29, 2014 It's just corrugated looking very thin aluminum. It is kind of a bear to cut because it's so soft the waves can get pinched or flattened easily.
blunc Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 I am curious as to the reason the radiator fan is offset lower than center, are there engine obstructions that require that placement? Since you're producing everything else with such precision I'm guessing this is a feature of the 1:1 cars.
