Okay, that's just an amazing flathead. Straying from the carbs for a second...Hypodermics for the looms? Back to the carbs...are those Norm's? They're stunning. Fuel bowl looks great, too. Love them all, but this and the Olds are killer.

It's understandable to not want people to hotlink to competing magazines or forums, or even to type their names out, because it then becomes a matter for the almighty search engine to sort out and we all know what a fickle son of a barge that one can turn into (google took my customers WHERE?!). But to outright flog a well-spoken and informative poster for pointing out something completely in context and done respectfully? Come on...

Wire looms are made from hypo needles. The carbs are resin from Model Car Garage together with all the linkage hardware. The fuel bowl is from Replicas and miniatures as well as the intake manifold, gas lines, heads and oil dipstick, it's a hop up kit specifically made for this '53 Ford Victoria by Lindberg engine. I also used the carbs from MCG for the Merc!!

never seen the plug wires run under the heads. it's a nice detail and lets the manifold & carburetion stand out.

Q: is this prototypical or "modeler's license"?

thanks

90% of what I build uses a carter AVS or AFB

And IMO the best one so far is the one in the AMT 1971 duster kit ( maybe others )

Lots of great carbs & techniques on this thread, but I keep coming back to this one. It reminds me of some Saturday "test-n-tune" sessions my friends and I used to have.

Great looking carbs - something that is often overlooked. I don't normally leave mine exposed, but I did on this car just becuase I liked the way the "top" turned out. I added the fuel lines, glass fuel filter, and throttle return spring.

BTW, I have found a great goldish-color for carbs:

Alclad II Pale Burnt Metal

It's a little more gold in real life, but still a pale gold.

that is a real purdy Carter/Edelbrock AFB (stands for Aluminum Four Barrel...so I've been told) and could easily be painted/detailed to look like a Thermoquad.

Here's a couple Holleys I put on top of a hi-rise, I may rework the throttle cable...it's a little kludgey. I cut these from the top of a Monogram intake manifold that had them cast on top, then reshaped them till they looked more like Holley carbs with manual secondaries.

really outstanding carb detail work here, it looks like Mr. O may have spent some intimate time with real carbs to even know how and where to put some of his details. I don't think I've ever seen anyone detail the Rochesters on that 348/409 in that way (which happens to be correct based on what I've seen of real tri-power setups).

Cruz has some equally amazing detail work also. :)

Thanks, Marcos. I looked through MCG's catalog and didn't see them. Maybe they're no longer offered? I'm also curious...did you start out with a MM Jet Exhaust base color for some of these?

Bill, those carbs are ridiculous, but that's what we've come to expect from you. lol. Btw, you and I did meet briefly once, at one of the Toledo NNL's sometime around 2000 or so. And yes, George is right, your work needs to be seen in person to be fully appreciated.

Thanks bro! I do use Alclad for the goldish tone of the carbs but I also drybrush them a bit and then give 'em a slight blackwash, it brings out a lot of the details!!

Thanks for the compliment Christopher! Yes, I was first at the Toledo NNL in October 2001, and that's when the '58 Chevy with the 3x2 BBL 348 was first shown. Time sure flies! I was about 90 lbs heavier then and of course the eyesight was a bit better. ;) I need a jeweler's eyeloop to do the closeup work these days.........never thought I'd need them!
