realgone58 Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 Here's another old promo I salvaged. Picked this one up on the 'Bay, took it apart, cleaned it, fixed one cracked A pillar, polished out the original Yuma Tan Metallic, that's the original finish on the roof, then some detailing in and out, and BMF work. Lucked out on the chrome on this one, just needed a good cleaning and polishing.
Ron Hamilton Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 Funny you should show that Alan. Your restoration is beautiful. I have a '67 Convertible with a missing windshield frame and windshield, and a '67 Built-up that I just received, and taken apart. I has to be stripped, which I may start today.
TooOld Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 (edited) Another beautiful AMC ! I've always loved that body style , great work ! Edit - Sorry , Rambler ! Edited July 17, 2013 by TooOld
Pete L. Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 (edited) Really nice, wish they still made cars that looked that good !!! I think it's great that there's folks like you out there that have the desire and the skills to preserve these models/promos because you just don't see these cars out there anymore, either in model form or in 1:1 scale. Thanks for your efforts fellas !!! Now if model companies took a longer look at the Rambler/American Motors lines they would have plenty of new subject matter.... Edited July 17, 2013 by Pete L.
slusher Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 Man that looks great Alan, you have posted some nice promos.
smellyfatdude Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 Beautiful resto! I'm curious, did the promo have the Ambassador script molded on the hood, or did you add it? The one I built from the kit lacked any script. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=72490&hl=

To answer your question, yes, the Ambassador script was there on the hood from the factory. Hood and body is one piece on mine due to it being a promo. I'm sure Jo-Han had to have cut the hood out of a promo body to make the opening hood for the kit. Strange it doesn't have the emblem. Perhaps someone goofed at Jo-Han, and just sanded it off the master hood?
Sixties Sam Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Great looking Rambler! AMC made some good looking cars back then. I'm glad to see such a unique subject being saved. Nice job! Sam
Danno Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Beautiful! Love seeing these builds from the road less traveled (brands other than Big-3).
