Mark, Greg announced a good year ago that M C M would be made available in Barnes and Noble . O K , Chesterfield Hobbies is now closed . That was our LAST REAL hobby shop. Sure , we have a Hobby Townand one Hobby lobby and a few Michael's . To me Hobby Town isn't , never wants to be , nor ever will order in anything outside of R C stuff. I've tried . FORGET The Michaels . they sell maybe ten of the top selling Revell kits and a tiny Testor line . Hobby Lobby, hey, they're one forty miles Northwest of me .............

Either the Barnes & Noble by me doesn't carry MCM or they sell out so quickly that I miss it there.I think the former is more likely as I always see Scale Auto there. But the LHS by me does carry MCM so I can get it there(as long as I don't forget the arrival date-the LHS sells out of it quickly).

Don't see how that answers his question Ed. He was asking about big bookstore distribution of the magazine, not closing of mom and pop hobbyshops.(insert crickets chirping)

Lee, I think this is the point Ed was trying to make. The local Hobby Shops where they did carry the books are gone so unless B&N are carrying ithere is no where to get it locally.

I have a family friend who works at the B&N here and she says not only don't they stock it she has never even heard of it!

The Barnes and Noble here in Medford, OR doesn't carry it either. I've wanted a subscription for a while now, but we've been trying to buy a house so i've been waiting until we did..

2 weeks to close! After that i'll just buy a subscription and get it in my mailbox every month.

Well, I have seen it in the one's near me, which I hope boes well for the Mag. I gues my question was more, "do they think it has helped cisulation" or has it been B&N not seeing it move much. I would have thought they felt it worth the risk based on sales of Sacale Auto. But, since I have heard nothing more in the mag or here, and some folks are not finding it, maybe they have stopped carrying it already.

Haven't been able to find it at any of the B&N near me but surprisingly enough, a couple of LHS have started carrying it!

It probably comes down to individual B&N stores deciding whether or not to carry the mag and that will have more impact on circulation.

You've got to wonder if B&N is carrying SA(noE) just because Clambake Publishing requires them to carry SA(noE) in order to get Fine Scale Modeler, which has a much bigger audience and greater demand.

Oh, no, Auntie Em! Clambake wouldn't do that, would they?

Hmmm, you may be onto something.

Alas, many of the B&N bookstores are closing..

That's right, I forgot about that , its a shame, I always enjoy just wandering about inside the stores .

No place to get it in Austin. I mentioned it once here. Someone informed me that it's available at Village Hobbies. That info came from a list in the magazine. Unfortunately, the shop had closed about 5 years earlier.

King's Hobby almost went under in 2008. They quit carrying the magazine then. I've asked about it, but they say it didn't sell well enough to justify carrying it again. :-(

Ah yes... bookstores. The 21st century's equivalent of the blacksmith's shop.

Whats a book?, is something that a generation or two will soon be asking

Only because most of the upcoming generation can't spell, read or write.

And for God's sake, don't ask them to make change. If the computerized cash register is 'off' they can't do it.

It is unfortunate...though I consider myself pretty modern and have been an early adopter of e-books (have a 1st gen Kindle and Kindle Fire HD tablet), e-magazines (Zinio subscriptions), streaming TV and movies, mp3s and streaming music, etc I still enjoy collecting physical media--CDs, Blu Ray DVDs, books, magazines... I spent many an hour in bookstores over the years...was a big fan of Borders since living in their home town (Ann Arbor, MI) back in the '90s. Denver has a great independent bookstore, The Tattered Cover, that I frequented when I lived there. I also miss record stores--from Tower Records to local independents. It is so easy to buy so much online--I use Amazon Prime all the time-- but I do miss physical destinations..

What's 'change' or 'cash'? :) I rarely ever use cash, and lately I've noticed more and more places using Square and other card readers that attach to cell phones in place of old-school cash registers..

Same here. Don't use cash... I don't see why I should have to go to the ATM every few days and withdraw a wad of paper money. I use my debit card for everything.

I miss the days when I could sit on the floor of my Grandmother's house and thumb through the pages of The Book of Knowledge or The Encyclopedia Britannica, and discover things I never heard of or imagined. Now you have to know what you're looking for and go to Google, without anything in between.

Serendipity ain't what it used to be.
