Very interesting. I am not a general modeler. I build cars and trucks exclusively. But recently I became interested in these old "hot rod" speed boat kits and acquired examples of both the AMT and Revell ones. I will be following along with your build to learn more about these unique and interesting kits. Thanx for sharing!

The outer cladding you are adding appears to be real wood stripping. How thin is it and is it a hobby supply item?

I just ordered some really good looking veneer from a seller on ebay . I think they are stuff used by people who custom make pens. Search penman or something like that on ebay.

There's a company called Dumas that does boats in various scales, some in 1/24 that are really cool. There is a Chris Craft runabout and a few different cabin cruisers. All done in wood. Pricey at $50-100 a kit, but you get what you pay for!

Thank you for replys, its real woodveneer ,mahogany and teak. I got it in a modeltrain store, think they bulid houses with it. This is my third one, last one was Revells Hemi Hydro.

Do you fill the seams or just sand down ? Stain at all or just some clear ?

The seams is filled with White Putty (Tamiya) and sanding, after that just clear ( 20 thin layers) .

Awesome work on that runabout as it looks really sweet. Dumas makes some excellent wooden boat kits as I still have a started one in my crawl space under the house. I got into the model ('55 Chris Craft Cobra) when I was into R/C boats in the 90's.

Very nice! What kind of glue is used to bond the veneer to the plastic?

Cyanoacrylate like krazy glue, the gel type .

Love that workmanship, the result looks fantastic! bravo!!

I've always loved those older wooden speed boats, the Cris Craft being the best known name of them really!
