Craig Irwin Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 I didn't know we needed to justify vehicles. Who needs a 220 MPH supercar or bike? Should we all be forced to drive Smartcars? (I hope not, I'd be too embarrassed)
jbwelda Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 >I hope not, I'd be too embarrassed you could always walk. jb
Craig Irwin Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Smartcars are such a joke they inspired a new form of urban "cow-tipping", Smartcar tipping! http://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local/Suspects-Flip-Over-Smart-Cars-in-San-Francisco-254177981.html
cobraman Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 I think that manufactures should make whatever they want. The market will decide if it is a vehicle worth producing. I don't feel I should tell or care what anyone else decides to spend their money on. If I did we would all be driving Fords ! : )
mrindy77 Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 If we all drove the same car it would not really be embarrassing would it? The car, for some people, is an expression of their personality. Others view it as just a mode of transportation a tool as such to make ones travel easier. I don't judge people by what cars they drive. I make those opinions after I have met them.
martinfan5 Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 (edited) You do actually get that in Arizona (and the desert Southwest in general) sometimes. Local thunderstorms can turn dry washes into unexpected rivers pretty quick. And because of that, we have the "Dumb Motorist Law" and you have to pay the fee I believe for having to be rescued for trying to cross a flooded wash Who says you have to use those capabilities on public roads? Some cars can go over 150 miles per hour...I can't remember the last time I saw a speed limit over 65. 75 MPH speed limit out here on I-10 outside of the metro area And Texas Highway 130 has a 85 MPH Speed Limit Edited August 5, 2014 by martinfan5
freakshow12 Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 I dunno, my mom has a hummer H2. She "had" to have it so my dad bought it new for her in 08. Best seats of any vehicle I have ever been in. And I have been in some nice ones. It's terrible to drive in the wind though lol
Joe Handley Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 A one-in-a-million sequence of events doesn't justify the Hummer's existence. I kinda have to agree with Harry here, I wouldn't be surprised if there were a number of smaller cars and trucks that would tolerate kind of wreck (although I am amazed the one car got that far off the ground in the wreck, must have been running nearly triple digit speeds!), especially not knowing how much speed that semi was carrying into the scene of the accident.

It's terrible to drive in the wind though lol I imagine that has to be like the XJ Cherokees or any of the vans we've owned, might as well have been trying to drive a cardboard box! Surprisingly, I did accidentally discover the XJ's with the Selec-Trac transfer cases were much more driveable and got better mileage when in full time 4wd (AWD) over using the 2wd (RWD) choice when you were fighting heavy cross winds!
om617 Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 I just purchased a 83 Toyota Starlet KP61,blue with lots of spots on it,but no rust. Since i`m 6"4 people tend to laugh and smile when they see me get in and out of it. Is it because i look like an idiot or the the tiny car vs big guy is fun,i`m not really sure. Should i feel embarrassed to drive around in it? Well no,as a friend told me,also a good point, you cant have masculinity issues driving around in that thing lol. I find it as a nice contrast to my 89 Mercedes. The build quality you can feel is universes away diffrent, but 80s Toyotas are said to be really realiable.
Danno Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 (edited) This would be embarrassing... Yes, indeed that would be embarrassing!! Fender skirts on a Falcon! OMG, what Son-of-a-Buck would do THAT!?!?!!! Edited August 5, 2014 by Danno
Harry P. Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 Yes, indeed that would be embarrassing!! Fender skirts on a Falcon! Not everyone got the memo...
Joe Handley Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 Not everyone got the memo... Don't see those skirts nearly as embarrassing as those weird looking rear window louvers!
Agent G Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 All I'm saying is that "one in a million" set of circumstances had a positive outcome for my friend because of what she was driving. That's enough for me. And no I'd never own one of those "things". G

Just like a fridge box! Lol. The hummer does not even have a 2wd setting. The 5.3 h2 wouldn't even get out of it's own way but thankfully hers is the 6.0l engine. It works well. And there is not much it won't climb or go through
Thatswhatshesaid Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 As anyone seen those lime green metallic Chevy Sparks? Who in their right mind would pull onto a dealership .of full of 500 cars and say "That's the one!" ? I would. Dare to be different!!!
jaymcminn Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 Gotta weigh in on this one. I am the proud owner (for the last eight years!) of a PT Cruiser convertible- a car that even most of the PT enthusiasts don't quite "get". Mine is the "Turbo Lite" version, with the 190 hp turbo motor. I've done some upgrades over the years to get it just how I want it... it now has a mean-sounding Magnaflow cat-back exhaust, Enkei 5-spoke 17x8 wheels, and I debadged it almost completely (can't get rid of the Chrysler "wings" without major surgery, however). Basically, I look at it as an ongoing project that I can drive daily. It's a fairly low-spec car, so there are no fancy-shmancy driver aids like traction control and ABS (seriously- no ABS!). It has a ton of character and gets quite a bit of attention in a town full of exotics that cost as much as the average house. A lot of people might be embarrassed to drive it, but I think it's got a great combination of soul and personality. Let the people who worry about what others think about their cars drive beige Camrys- it just leaves more interesting cars for everyone else!
Joe Handley Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 Those Enkei's and the simple debadging really look good on that car!
Harry P. Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 There's absolutely nothing embarrassing about a PT Cruiser.
Tom Geiger Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 As anyone seen those lime green metallic Chevy Sparks? Who in their right mind would pull onto a dealership .of full of 500 cars and say "That's the one!" ? I always say if you gonna drive something odd, you may as well go all the way. I always said that if I bought a Pontiac Aztek, I would've got the bright yellow one with black stripes! It looked like an angry bee!
lordairgtar Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 ok thanks for the correction, I must have gotten that into my head from the prototype. made me think those cars were another lost opportunity like the HHR. I think both those cars could be hugely redeemed by the availability of some major horsepower under the hood.\ jb HHR SS...lotsa power 155 mph @ the Nurburgring
