Modelmartin Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 A Cobra roadster is not swoopy. It is muscular, brutal, etc. etc. Swoopy implies smooth and shapely. A Cobra is not smooth.
Richard Bartrop Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Same goes for the Mercedes 300SL Gullwing and roadster. I don't know, the 300SL never really struck me as swoopy, especially compared to the prewar K models. There's enough modelling there to keep it from looking like a bar of soap, but there's nothing really extravegant there. I think what makes it work is that it's a very solid, no-nonsense look. Not really an art object so much as a well crafted tool for moving two people at high speed.

Anyway, here's one that was mentioned but not shown, but a couple of more audacious versions have been posted: Talbot-Lago teardrop coupe, the epitome of swoopy, restrained elegance -- to me, even more appealing than the Bugatti Atlantic. Richard Bartrop Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 A car with wings isn't swoopy?? Actual fins? No doubt about it. Doors, and other components that need to remain firmly closed during the normal operation of the vehicle don't really count.
Skydime Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 (edited) Swoopy Semi ? If Snoopy were a semi instead of a Beagle...maybe this would be a swoopy Snoopy! It has tinted glass to represent his "Joe Cool" sunglasses and all. In all seriousness, there is no way someone could look at those wing things (if that is even a term) without thinking of Snoopy's ears. Edited August 24, 2013 by Skydime
comp1839 Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 here's a mercedes i thought looked pretty swoopy.
cobraman Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 I didn't notice one of these listed yet and I think it fits the bill. Alfa Romero B.a.t.t
Joe Handley Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 here's a mercedes i thought looked pretty swoopy. Eh, still reminds me of a bar of soap, only with stickers.
Greg Myers Posted August 25, 2013 Author Posted August 25, 2013 Swooosh, well it's kinda like Swoop. Okay, probably 20 times better
comp1839 Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Eh, still reminds me of a bar of soap, only with stickers. you are entitled to your opinion. here's another one that hits my swoopy button.
Joe Handley Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 you are entitled to your opinion. here's another one that hits my swoopy button. That is better, but with the exception of the C4's, most Corvettes were pretty swoopy. Kinda looks like something Bruce Wayne would race on the side though.
Foxer Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 I think this one needs to be here. It's the Black Pearl owned by Metalica's James Hetfield and featured in the latest Rodder's Journal. The body started a flat sheet steel and yet needs details and wheels ... and the black paint. To me it's Swoopy with an American Custom accent. The photos are borrowed from a H.A.M.B. thread. Simply beautiful!!
peekay Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 The 2005 Holden Efigy - not quite sure I like it but it sure is swoopy....
Harry P. Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 How is anyone with a head supposed to seat in those back seats?
sjordan2 Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 I always wished that the Chrysler Atlantic had made it to production.
Agent G Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 I always wished that the Chrysler Atlantic had made it to production. I agree. One or two minor body mods and it would be darn near perfect. G

Ace-Garageguy Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 I am now mightily curious. When there are so many really beautiful, well proportioned and creatively styled cars in the world to look at and learn from, and to provide inspiration, how is it that so many mediocre and even ugly cars make it into production??

My thoughts also.
