Joker Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 To quote Jack Nicholsons Joker.... "Where does he get those wonderful toys?"
cobraman Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 I kind of see a little early Corvette in that car. In any case I love the look of that car and wish you well with your project. Looks to be a tough one. I hope you can pull it off because I for one would love to see it.
1930fordpickup Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 This is cool ! I hope it turns out great.
Pat Minarick Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 Very cool looking car ! I would say find a big hunk of plastic and start carving I see Corvette up front ,Studebaker and 58 Chevy in the back
ToyLvr Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 Maybe the "Predicta" by Monogram as a rough blank???
ChrisBcritter Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 I can see starting with a '59 Buick, a '57 Buick Roadmaster promo or resin, headlight surrounds from the Chrysler Turbine, the ends of a '60 Cadillac rear bumper, '50/'51 Studebaker hood/bullet, '64 Galaxie interior for the seats... Any other ideas?
Customman Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 I think that car was called the Centurian. Sharp car, I agree with Mike I'd start with the Monogram Predicta.
blunc Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 I kinda see 57 buick special sides, 58 chevy or 57 caddy tail light pods, 59 impala "wings", the front fender top/ridges have a hint of 59 buick invicta to them. No clue where to start on the shiney bits up front. That clear roof has a set of problems all it's own. Ya gotta admit, the Centurion is a great looking concept car.
Mike Kucaba Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 What everyone else said plus lots of plastic & putty
kennb Posted September 11, 2013 Author Posted September 11, 2013 (edited) I think that car was called the Centurian. Sharp car, I agree with Mike I'd start with the Monogram Predicta. totally correct.......................... thanks so far for all the help and ideas,,,,,,they have brought to mind a whole new thought of the build...the problem would be getting some of the parts...so far I am looking at the following,,,,other ideas still wanted though 60 caddy rear bumper,,, ,57 Buick body 75 to 80 Corvette front clip...basically for the hood. 58 Chevy rear clip 50-51 Studebaker front clip--hoods 64 Galaxie interior for the seats The predicta would be a close start but would need a lot of work to get the rounded shapes.. now finding parts...................................and maybe more thinking................... The roof would have to be scratch built....no other way....I could start with a top but after cutting for the glass there would be nothing left.................... Keep the ideas rolling thanks to everyone so far Edited September 11, 2013 by kennb
PappyD340 Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 Very ambitious project for sure, I also hope you can pull it off!!
ToyLvr Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 AMT '64 T-Bird kit had an optional clear roof that might work for you. Front windshield from '59 Chevy. Front grill assembly from Monogram "Orange Hauler"....
John Goschke Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Knowing some dimensions, at the very least, the wheelbase would help in your quest. In any case, it'll take a fair amount of slicing and dicing from various sources along with a lot of basic scratchbuilding. The big challenge is that beautifully shaped roof and windshield; scratching and vac or smash forming is the only way to get that really looking right. Definitely one of the best looking Motorama show cars! Good luck with the project!
Eshaver Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 John, I did the L' Universalle back in 1993 . I started with an A M T 1955 Chevrolet Stepside cab . The rest was parts scrounging , some Plastruct , some Bondo , an an imagination .................. Oh Ken makes a lot of points , I'd try his suggestions as he is well on his way to have a 1956 Impala too.
Davewilly Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 AMT '64 T-Bird kit had an optional clear roof that might work for you. Front windshield from '59 Chevy. Front grill assembly from Monogram "Orange Hauler".... I agree that the front nose section would from the Orange Hauler would be a good starting point for the center section of the front end. It will be a build to watch when you do start....and it is a beauty of a car
Mike Kucaba Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Hendrix makes a good quality casting of that year Buick. That would be THE starting point(at least IMHO) You would have the basic general shape and go from there. Granted, not many of us want to buy a resin kit and bash it like this. The roof could be played out in a standard way, and then become the form for a vacuum-copy.
Greg Wann Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 I am a Buick fan. That is a really awesome car. I have thought about buying a Franklin Mint 1951 !/24 scale Lesabre Diecast and taking it apart to cast it. They usually go for a good bit of money too. I am horrible at making master parts. But if you want it cast it...you can count me in. The roof might be tough to do.
David G. Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Wow! That's ambitious. It'll be fun to watch this one come together. David G.
