I finished the revel 1/12 GT500 a few weeks ago and cannot find a case locally that's large enough for it. Unfrotunately I had to put it back in the box to keep it safe. This build was my best yet in 26 years of building and I would really like to have something to display it in. Anyone have a source for what I am looking for that has it under $80? I mean I already have enough money into the build as it is and don't really want to go any higher. Maybe someone has a tutorial on building one? I am really tempted to buy some plastic sheet and build my own somehow.

I build my own out of picture glass and frames. You can use acrylic too if you choose. If you can build a model, you can build a case.

My how-to article is published in Model Cars Magazine issue #156. Back issues are available.

I built the same car and had the same problem. My solutuion ? I bought a aquarium. I got it at Petco when they had their dollar a gallon sale. It's a 10 gallon so I paid 10 bucks for it. Turned it upside down on the car. Easy peasy and keeps all the dust out.

How about free? You could certainly fit several of the 1/12 scale kits in any of my cases! The above one I got for free when someone was moving and left it behind.

This one I spent a big $100 for at a consignment furniture store.

And the small case was also free. It was literally sitting at the curb in my neighborhood so I just loaded it in my van.

It is easy to do. CrazyJim has the basics down really well. I have built a number of them and made one change. I glue mine up. Weldon 3 or 4 will glue most forms of plexi. Cut and sand your edges then flame polish them. I have a very small torch. You can get the edges clear with a few very quick passes. Obviously don't hold it in one place too long or you will over do it. Also don't touch the edge until it is completely cool. This stuff gets very hot and will stick to you! You have never had a burn until you get molten or burning plexi stuck to you. Practice on a piece of scrap first. My local plastic fabricator has a scrap bin and I get a lot of really usable pieces out of it for 5$ a pound.
