KingSix
So, what do you guys do while you're building ? I either have winamp booted up with music or I have a movie going while I'm working. Anybody else work like this ? I'm lucky enough to have a completely spare bedroom in the new house, where we have our computers and a lazy-boy. A lot of times the wife who is an avid reader will sit and read while I work on my models. She is so supportive of my hobby , I'm a lucky guy.. Agent G
My normal work day is spent in and around casinos. At the best of times casinos are the noisest, crowded, most chaotic places you would ever visit. While it's exciting for patrons, it's a drag for us who work there or in my case police there. I build as a way to relax and unwind. I have done that for the better part of my career. Silence is truly golden. Tony T
Music..CD, radio or iPod. Occasionally, even the odd cassette!
Deathgoblin
Music typically. I've got speakers on my desk that I can plug into my MP3 player, plus I've got my stereo and CD's in the same room.
bbowser
I build on the coffee table in the evening in front of the TV. Maybe an hour a night if I'm lucky.

Ramfins59
Actually I build with nothing going on if I'm alone down in my basement... no music, no TV. I listen to myself think and don't mind my own company. When family members are home I hear them and whatever music or TV they may have on. I enjoy the peace and quiet and usually get a lot more accomplished without any distractions or interruptions.

I do have a small TV in the model room but I find that I zone out and don't even pay attention to it at all. I'm also not much into music in the car when I'm alone. I just use the time to meditate with my own thoughts.
DSHWoodworks
Most of the time music on my ipod but sometimes late at night nothing but my own thoughts.
ChrisBcritter
I'm back to the same workshop I was in 30-some years ago; there's an old boombox that plays what passes for WLS nowadays. Back in the Seventies I had an old '50s tube radio that I rigged up with a "remote control" - a long piece of plastic kite tubing with a notched piece of wood in one end. It worked real good when they started playing anything from the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. I'd reach over with the stick, hook the volume knob and Samantha Sang sang no more. tbill
i enjoy the silence in front of me. usually the wife or kids are watching tv, so there is back ground noise, but i zone out into quiet time. i only get two times where i have zone out quiet, mowing lawn and building/messing up models, rest of my life is hectic, so my zone out time is welcome

If I had the radio on, I would get too distracted swearing at all the stupid commercials.
Harry P.
No entertainment while building. Building is the entertainment. If I want to listen to music or watch TV I'll listen to music or watch TV. If I want to work on a model, I work on a model. If I want to read a book, I read a book. I don't have much use for doing more than one thing at a time. Nacho Z
Put me in the music group. I am in the middle of a total hobby room clean up, getting ready for the cold weather and my building season. I just took the cable box and TV out of my room. I get too darn distracted with it on. One thing I noticed regarding music. I find, many times, that if I have some hard rock on I will get, how do I put this....jittery(?) I find it best to listen to more soothing things like the Eagles. Geez, I'm getting old......
