Bought this a little over a year ago, instantly fell in love with the box art (didn't like the exhaust set up) so I decided I wanted a nice fun build so I chose to build this one.

Nothing Special.

Comments good, bad or ugly welcomed, and yes I know about the paint issue on the right side of the car, I fixed it twice and it reappeared both times, I think It may be a reaction from what ever the body was stripped with before I bought it, I even washed the body before paint prep..........

Very cool! When I was 14 this kit was new and I built the same version you did - but of course not NEARLY as nicely. Thanks for the nostalgia.

Very NICE build Nick, I too built that kit back in the day, but it met its demise, but I still have the wheels and I'm going to use them on an upcoming project, looks great!! :D

That is a super sharp build Nick, l really like the black gloss dash, that is a nice touch. Sharp engine detail also.

A lot of people forget what was steel in those days.........

Thanks Guys. It was Fun.

Good old AMT kit # T408

I bought 3 or 4 of them in the early 70s and have 5 in my basement right now. It's the 3rd issue of the kit since '64 (previous issue 1969 same as original but working lights removed) and first issue with no chassis screws and all the custom parts removed. Thankfully AMT made it into a "Street Rods" and not a modified stocker like they did with the '64 Galaxie and '66 Impala. The reversed wheels with moon caps premiered in this kit.

Back in 1971 I went back to the local 5&10 to buy the 1969 issue of the '64 Impala, but it was gone. They tried to get another but no dice, of course. When T408 arrived in 1972 I was glad to see it again. Even cut another up to make a convertible. The early printing of this kit shows a box end with T408-225 which means $2.25. After the oil embargo of 1973, the 225 price was printed over in black ink or finally removed. The box art of this kit is great.

About 1974 or 1975 T408 disappeared. But the '64 Impala reappeared as #2203 in 1977 in the Countdown series. This time, most of the custom parts came back. Forever missing are the chassis screws and working lights.

Nick your '64 really is a nice job.

Hey Nick, saw this model in person Saturday, what a cool looking model, colour is great and looks just right. I just finished a AMT 1964 Impala myself and entered it the same contest, It was the 4 door Biscayne on the table.

Thanks Everyone, this one lives happily in one of my display cases with it's box!

Dan, I remember that Biscayne, that was a very nice build, I think I took pictures of it, infact.

Nick, I like your work. The last few days I've been looking at older postings. Every time I run across one of yours, I like what I see.

Thank you Scott, I just build what I enjoy!
