Yes!!! I just hope that the auto is the old style hydramatic, & not a newer style tranny.

Agreed, and that someone will cast it so I don't have to buy a kit I sincerely have no interest in- I like my cars stock.

I'm taking side bets as to NEVER seeing this kit return with the ORIGINAL STOCK parts , jus like the 50 F-1 did ...................

since they didn't alter the original pieces, I don't think there would be a problem with building a stock version, especially since if the auto trans is one of the original type Hydramatic's. This shouldn't be a real problem for Revell, since they already have several kits in their vaults that came with the old style Hydro behind an Olds' motor, the original Willys kit, the Anglia sedan, & the Thames Pie Wagon come to mind easily. Also there is no need to cast that old style hydro, (even though I'm sure somebody has) as it comes in the Parts Pack kit of the Cadillac motor & should be an easy mat to the Olds.

I just got one today at Hobbytown, and while I can't provide photos (I have some technological flat spots), I'll try to describe what I've found so far. As noted, the engine does have three twos, with individual air cleaners, chrome finned valve covers, primitive '50s style headers, and what seems to be a hydromatic transmission. There are eight sets of coil springs in the box, so apparently it can be lowered or built at stock height. I also noticed dual exhaust, custom wheel covers (fiesta-style), fender skirts, and a hood with no mouldings. The kit does contain the stock grill, stock wheels (with hub caps and beauty rings), and I think the stock interior, but only the custom hood. Also, looks like only the custom engine parts are present, so building this one stock may be a problem.

After a closer look, it appears that the stock chrome trim for the hood is included, so it seems that a stock appearing car could be modeled.

I can live with triple twos....

Or add one of Ken Kitchen's BEAUTIFUL Olds Big Sixes and Tom Coolidge's nice fastback body and make a nice granny-car out of it.*

*Also a nice Charlie-car, as I'd actually be quite happy driving a 76 fastback with Hyrda-Matic. I suppose that would make it a nice Grandpa-in-Training car?

LoL.... I'll admit I do have a soft spot for a few 'Grandpa' stereotype cars--late model Lincoln Town Cars, Crown Vics, Grand Marquis and Caddy DTSes specifically. They are old school in size yet modern enough to make great daily drivers, IMO.

As far as the custom Olds kit, sounds like there are enough new parts to warrant picking up one. I have one of the first issue stock versions, thought about getting the MCM hardtop resin conversion and doing one that way.

Edit: stopped at the LHS after work this afternoon and picked up this kit...the new parts look pretty nice at first glance.

Peeked inside one today, pretty nice. The new intake and headers are provided on both the chrome and regular white sprues*, so you'll have extras for the parts box. You also get a custom taillight treatment by filling in the tail fin mounting holes and using decal tail lights. Might not look that great, but the stock tail fin/ taillights are still in there. If fact all the stock body trim, wheels and suspension parts appear to be there, the motor and exhaust look like the only things that can't be built stock.

*edit - apparently they're slightly different parts - even better!

It doesn't appear that in the kit I just opened that there are any parts missing that would keep one from building a "Stock" version the hood is the same hood, & you have to fill the holes in the rear quarters to use the kit "Decal" tailight options, other than that it appears one could put a stock version with an auto instead of the manual, & this one would have dual exhaust. I'm sure if you didn't want to use the kit "headers" to use the dual exhaust version you could fab up a short length of exhaust pipe to go from the manifolds to the kit pipes.

I picked one up today, and the only thing that stood out was the poor quality of the printing on the white walls. Two were chipped and a third was not properly centered on the space for the white wall. Anyone else experience this?

Yes, please. Especially the new engine parts. I would like to see those.

Thanks.

OK guys, here's a complete, illustrated blow-by-blow description of what's new in the second version of the '50 Olds tool, as well as what is no longer there. Make sure to click on each individual picture so you can see the written explanation that goes with it. Thanks for looking...TIM http://public.fotki.com/funman1712/first-look-at-all-n/new-revell-50-olds--1/

I must have really been asleep at the switch- where did this kit come from? Thanks for the photos, Tim! Looks like Revell's getting at least a few more of my monetary units this fall...

Thanks, I didn't buy one, just peeked inside <_< . I'll get one eventually. Snagged the 62 Vette gasser instead...

Are the stock valve covers still in there? I didn't notice them.

I absolutely hate - well, dislike strongly - the newer Revell wheels. It's a pain to jam those style wheels into the tires. I like the look of the wheels, but they won't fit other tires without work. Does anybody actually like that system?

The other parts look cool...

I have no idea why they went to that style of wheel mounting..seems cheap and toylike.
