Hey everybody. I was thinking about some of the kits I've built and I have my favorites and, of course, my least favorites. Thought I would talk about the everybody's favorite. For starters I build a lot of different kits from a lot of manufacterers as am sure a lot of you all do. So far my favorites so far are late Revell automobile and aircraft kits and with aircraft hands down for me its Eduard. I've noticed that Revell is trying to keep up with the times by some of the new kits and the amount of detail put into their kits. Also the parts count for a lot of kits has doubled resulting in several different options for a kit to be built as and for the extra detail. This whole 1990 Mustang LX kit as well as the 1/32 scale He-219 and Fw190 D-9 kits are prime examples of Revell making a good contribution to the modeling community. I noticed that the parts count for the Mustang was pretty high up there and from what I can see the detail is awesome! The same goes for the He219 and the D-9. The AM world is eating the later two up and this seems to be true of the Mustang as well. I'm definitely glad to see some new stuff come out from them as well as continuing to enjoy what they have put out in the past.

As far as Eduard goes I was afraid to build a kit out of these guys at first because I wanted to build an Fw190 and I have seen over and over again the fit problems that can be encountered with that kit.....HOWEVER if proper planning and test fitting is followed the results are well worth the time put into the kit. I'm finding that this manufacturer also has several other kits that are the same as far as fit goes. The parts count is there , the accuracy sure as heck is there and the detail is unsurpassed. Their Bf109 series are another testament to their level of accuracy and detail. I haven't seen them put out a car model so far but if they ever did it would be one for the books I'm sure.

Today there aren't any Premier or Palmer manufacturers to totally avoid, so I think it comes down to subject matter. Revell and Moebius are producing the new interesting tools as of late so they are getting a bunch of our money. Round 2 is still focusing primarily on reissues and modified reissues, exercising the old tooling that they invested a fortune into buying. So when those issues come out, especially something we haven't seen in eons, we buy those too.

Outside of those, and depending on your modeling interests, Tamiya just did a nicely detailed kit of the old Citroen 2CV panel van. Their quality is first rate so I want one of those for sure. Subject matter wise, I'd even buy that one if it was from an unknown manufacturer.

Today's worries are mainly with the aftermarket, both quality of the kit they produce and the probability of them actually delivering one to you in a reasonable timeframe, if at all.

I've got a 1/48 Citroen staff car from them and that thing is a beaut!! It's been around a while though.

I don't really have a favorite. After building models for well over 50 years I can say that EVERY manufacturer has both good and bad. True some may get it right more than others but nowadays I find most kits are at least buildable and can result in a nice model given enough time and skills on the part of the builder.

That particular kit is actually a collaboration between Tamiya and Ebbro. It combines the original Tamiya Citroen 2CV parts with new parts by Ebbro for the panel van. The guy who runs Ebbro used to be a kit designer for Tamiya. I have it, it's pretty nice. I plan on doing the one Inspector Clouseau drives into a swimming pool in one of the old Pink Panther movies.

I have to agree with the OP about Eduard, they've really come a long way in a short time to now being one of the top aircraft model companies. I have several of their recent kits, including their 1/48th Spitfire IX, which has been done by several manufactures but had never been done accurately until the Eduard kit. It must have had some sort of curse which they finally broke through.

I can't name a "favorite" manufacturer. I buy a kit based on my interest in the subject and the scale of the kit... I couldn't care less who the manufacturer is.

I used to think like that until I opened up an MPM Arado 196 box! There was more flash on those sprues than a nuclear bomb could have emitted!!!

If it's a subject that I really want to build, I just deal with the imperfections. Who the manufacturer was is irrelevant to me, it doesn't change anything about what's in the box in front of me. If flash needs to be removed or sink marks filled, so be it. Or to put it another way... if it's a subject I really want to build, I wouldn't be swayed one way or another by who manufactured the kit. It just doesn't matter to me (unless there's a case where the same exact subject in the same scale was made by more than one manufacturer... in that case, obviously I'd get the one with the better reputation).

That's a good point. If it was something out of the ordinary that makes sense. I've got a 1/48 scale BV 141 that was put out by Hi-PM in about 98 or so. That kit looks dangerous! But like youre saying it is a subject that I'd like to build and I have one of two choices. Build it or get rid of it. I hear ya! :D

Man you aint kiddin' there! They have been nailing on the head in terms of accuracy. I can't wait until their Bf109 G-6 1/48 scale bird comes out in 2014!

Not really a fan of a brand, but of certain people, who try to get the best product on the shelf and while the quality may vary, I know they did their best

though n my teenage years .I was a real fan of Monogram

I agree with Darrin; I love a lot of the subjects MPC produced. Sometimes the kits aren't up to modern standards but the subjects are what is the best.

Right now, I have to say Aoshima, one of the reason is how they interact with their customers on FaceBook, and that is a big factor, there is the human element, you can talk to them, they will a few times a year, give away kits, they post what they working on, they keep there customers in loop of what they are doing to point.

Mine are....

JOHAN....for the kits they made

MPC.......for the kits they made

AMT of the 60s and early 70s era kits

Man I haven't seen a JOHAN kit in years!! Probably 30 or so I think. All I can remember is trying to build one of those things when I was 14. It didn't work out too good. It would be a different story today but haven't even thought of JOHAN until I saw it on this forum.

Revell, They are affordable. and make a lot of different cars. I also do like the other manufacterors. But I don't like their priceing of the new kits. Way to expensive

I have to agree with Harry I don't really have a favorite, subject matter is what I look at too and if there are difficulties or imperfections I just deal with them. :D
