Anyone know what model year this Ford truck is?

I must admit that I'm not into trucks, so I have no idea.

I still have this model that I built as a kid back in the 70s. It's in rough shape (but then again, so am I after all these years!). Really glad to see it reissued. I'm going to have to try to scrape up enough cash to buy one...

The basic model is an early 1970s (like a 1973 or so), but with a different engine & a few cosmetic changes (square headlights, different grill) it can be made into just about any LN8000 through the 1990s.

I got mine last week too. I started to glue things together but I have some questions.

1) is there a specific color to match "Cat" yellow or do I have to get a can from an outside source?

A few years ago I walked into the local CAT dealer and asked them for some paint, you can buy it in various quantities and I bought a single pressure pack for around $13.

I am sure glad they re-released the Ford Hauler again. I am currently building a rendition of the Sox And Martin hauler with both 65 altered wheelbase Plymouths. Several years ago, I built the Hauler with a C600 cab with a sleeper and 2- 69 Ford Mustangs. The new release looks to be the same as the original. Steve Prideaux

That is actually 20+ years of dust build up in it from sitting on the shelf Untouched all those years

Meant to give her a Good cleaning & polishing Before taking pic's!!!

Take a look at the Dart behind the truck

Dust is Very visable in that!!

been so long since I built it!!!

I don't remember having any problems.

I did cut all the doors out and hinged them

Plus added the steering.

I do want to get the re-issue.

I have a couple ideas for one!!

My frame was a slight bit warped, but nothing some careful assembly wouldn't pull back straight. The bed seemed pretty close to flat. I think it was more of a packaging issue than a molding issue with my kit.

I see I am not the first person to think of matching up the ramp body with the C-series cab. I found a couple of old photos of C-Series ramp trucks in real scale, so I know the idea is not too far out. I bet it would be able to be adapted to Lindberg's Dodge Tilt cab too. I was also thinking about the possibility of mating it up with the Modelhaus Chevy medium duty truck. ('64 or '65?) Lots of ways to build this one. I may have to buy an extra one for the stash! (And I can always find a use for a leftover Louisville cab and chassis too)

I got one of these today, looks like a cool subject. After some eyeball engineering I'm thinking of running a S2 Kenworth cab and bonnet instead of the Ford if I can get it to fit.

Now, If we can just get a Dodge cab / body to fit the chassis and bed I would be in heaven

I've already done it with a L700 I have 3 of these Transporter kits

Have wanted one of these for years. Always like first release best. The version they finely now have reissued. I never care for the different combination kits, were you got some type of car, and different graphics. So the present release makes me one happy camper.

My plan is to build it just like it's shown on the box. White with blue stripes. And the Ford logos. The plans are then to display it with AMT's Allison Thunderland funny car. Painted in a nice pearl white. I'm not the biggest Ford fan in the world, nor a big funny car fan. But, I love Thunderbirds. So combination seems right to me. No Pintos, Mustangs or Darts for me. Though all are cool in their own right. In fact I've built several "stock" Mustangs and one or two "stock" Pintos and Darts over the years. But I need a race car for this truck. And I wanted something different. Not a car that AMT or anybody else wants to combine with this truck. I especially did not want the last release, the "Tennessee Thunder" combination.

By the way, so far I'm not finding any problem with my kit. No warpage to the frame or any other parts so far. The frame went together with no problems what so ever. I hope the rest of the kit goes together as well.

Thanks to Round 2 for reissuing a another great old kit. I could not afford this kit the first time around. Nor several other cool kits at the time. So I like that Round 2 is giving me second chance at getting many of these great old kits.

I finally picked one up, and took some pics of the contents: http://modelkitreviews.proboards.com/thread/91/amt-ford-8000-race-hauler

There's a lot of plastic in the bed parts alone, and there's plenty of kit bashing material, especially the bed sides/compartment door pieces and the diamond plate ramp bed. Kudos to Round2 for reissuing this kit. :)

FWIW, the frame rails in my kit were mostly straight. There was some very slight waviness in one rail, but very minor. Not much flash and nothing warped, either. The chrome plating is flawless, too, but those rear hub pieces are soooooo tight to the sprue runners, they're nearly impossible to remove without damaging the chrome plating.

My only other gripe? Excessive use of exclamation points on the side-of-box description. Six sentences in a row ending in exclamation points?!? I guess the folks at AMT were really excited about this kit back in the day.

I just bought one of these recently at HL. I still have an original (built) that came with the Budweiser Mustang F/C. The F/C is long gone of course. The hauler is in pieces. But, mostly complete. One thing I've never cared for concerning the bed is dip in the treads where the front wheels of a model is supposed to rest. I can't recall ever seeing that on a real car hauler. Right or wrong, I'm going to fill that area in level with the rest. I'm also thinking about making the doors on the bed functional and adding the boxes behind them.

I didn't like those two front dips in the ramps either so I fixed it! I also made it to where the two loading ramps will slide up under the deck for storage. I still need to build the box to form the loading ramp storage " troft" and then I will be completing the back portion of all the storage boxes. Not sure if I'm going to make the storage doors open yet or not? I also rotated the last two cross members of the chassis to clear the loading ramp troft. Yea, it might not be totally accurate but hey, it works!
