kitbash1 Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Mine arrived yesterday. I don't keep track of when they're "due". Gregg, Harry and the rest of the crew do the best they can. No worries! What he said.
mrknowetall Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 What he said. Thank you! The latest issue of MCM arrives when it does. It's never been a huge deal for me, and I enjoy every issue. Lighten up people! It's not a big deal! Build something in between your MCM magazine arrival. It's what Gregg, Harry and the rest of the staff wants you to do!
tabsscale1 Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 I let my subscription go a few years ago because of this very reason. I don't buy into the 'i don't care when it arrives as long as it arrives' mentality. February issue should not show up in June. At least SA arrives on time. But SA isn't worth starting my wood burner with. Seems like all they do is keep showing the same peoples models and the articles are the same every month. Atleeast Model cars has some good subjects and articles when it arrives . Last scale auto I bought tooka total of 5 minutes to read. Just so boring anymore.
Chuck Most Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Some magazines put artificial dates on their covers which are months in advance. Is that "on time?" Hot Rod doesn't even use a cover date anymore- I see nobody complaining about it being 'on time', or the lack of a cover date. I'm paying less than cover price and having it delivered to my door- so you're not going to hear me gripe. Anyway, I got 180 in the mail on Tuesday in pristine condition, so it's on its way if you subscribe.
doctor phillips Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Doctor Phillips, How do YOU rate so high on the totem pole? Here in Michigan, that magazine is RARELY on time. Always an excuse printed in the editorial column. I don't subscribe to it; that's my excuse for getting it at my locat hobby shop.( Multiple trips waiting for each issue!)The more I think about it, Thomas... I guess I don't really notice the release dates on my model magazines. I'm just so happy to get a copy that it doesn't matter whether it's up to date or not. Thanks for all of your hard work Greg, Harry, and crew!
Harry P. Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 I know that the magazine arrives "late" if you go by the cover month. I won't excuse that, it's an issue that's "above my pay grade," as they say. But the bottom line is, if you paid for a 9 issue subscription (a year's worth of magazines), you will get 9 issues. Isn't that really the point?

Isn't that really the point? Bingo! Maybe lose the whole cover month thing and go by issue number? The Rodders Journal has been doing that since its inception in the mid-nineties.
Danno Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Bingo! Maybe lose the whole cover month thing and go by issue number? The Rodders Journal has been doing that since its inception in the mid-nineties. I've suggested that previously, but apparently there was some resistance from Barnes & Noble while the negotiations were underway to get MCM into their newsstands. Having said, that, however, I also note that Rodders Journal and Hot Rod, and probably others, have abandoned the "cover date" thing entirely. So maybe it's not such a big deal any more after all. At the same time, I also note that B&N has still not gotten around to stocking MCM despite agreeing to do so more than a year ago.

One of the reasons I love Model Cars Mag all content very little ads its a win win for me no matter when i receive the issue....

Joker Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Thanks Jarius for the Sketchpad poster. Alyn..the Tow Truck is just stunning. Thanks also , for the how-to on the Petty race car...lots of building tips !
jefropas Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Is MCM at Barnes and Noble? Never seen it there, of well, I've been buying it at my local HS for years, was thinking of subscribing, since my local HS is 30 minutes away and not so local... Jeff

Jeff Subscribing is cheaper than buying individual issues. And they come right to your door.
Dr. Cranky Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Another thing that makes Model Cars Magazine stand out is that if you look back through the last several years, there's an amazing array and diversity of builds, builders, and articles. I like how democratic the magazine is in its tastes.
Craig Irwin Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 . And they come right to your door. Both halfs!

I know the guy is knowledgeable about the history of the hobby but I am so tired of seeing the same old stuff from them. Also, have you seen the quality of Tim's builds?
Brett Barrow Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 You are right Doc, one of the things I hate about SA is just that....Tim Boyd this, Tim Boyd that and on and on. I know the guy is knowledgeable about the history of the hobby but I am so tired of seeing the same old stuff from them. Also, have you seen the quality of Tim's builds? You do realize Mr. Boyd writes for Model Cars as well (and is a member of this forum)???
Scale-Master Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Also, have you seen the quality of Tim's builds? Wow, just wow... Glass houses anyone?
mrknowetall Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Hmmmm. A thread about the timeliness of MCM has just been turned into something else.
Scale-Master Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Yeah, we all have the option of buying one or both of the magazines, or neither. Why bash SA? It won't make MCM better.
Deano Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 . Also, have you seen the quality of Tim's builds? Why, yes I have but I've not seen the quality of yours. Why would you even go there?
Harry P. Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Tim does a lot of work for SA, but we're lucky to also have him as part of our "family." And the cool thing is that we will run a Tim Boyd article about a subject that SA probably wouldn't touch. So everyone wins.
berr13 Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Good gosh, we're talking about a CAR MODEL magazine here (and a really good one, at that), not the Wall Street Journal. Just about everything in the magazine is not time sensitive, so what difference does it make when it arrives? I just sit back and enjoy when I receive one (and months later I'll be digging around for it because of a relevant article).
Scott Colmer Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 I actually find myself channeling Tim Boyd (among others) quite a bit. I think Mark said it best." Why bash SA? It won't make MCM better." Scott
martinfan5 Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Yeah, we all have the option of buying one or both of the magazines, or neither. Why bash SA? It won't make MCM better. The voice of reason that is going to fall on deaf ears for the most part
