Pete J. Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Ok Harry, you think that is bad, there is a new restaurant here in SoCal that gives me angina just mentioning it. It is called Slater's 50/50. They are a high end hamburger place. There signature burger is a 1/3 pound(after cooking) that is called the 50/50 because it is half beef and half bacon! They are opening an place about 2 miles from me in the 15th. I got an invitation to attend their soft opening on the 14th. A free entrée, one adult beverage(read beer) and unlimited soft drinks for 4 people! Probably the last time my wife will let me go!
Danno Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Well, don't forget the infamous Heart Attack Café that enjoyed a short-lived (no pun intended) run here in the Valley. They featured huge (1/2, 2/3 and 3/4 pound) burgers slathered in cheese, bacon, and grease on huge buns with mayo and sauces, and a huge platter of fries. They offered free burger (their largest one) to customers who weighed more than 350 lbs if they'd clean their plates. They had waitresses costumed as nurses and they checked your blood pressure while you were in their store. I think they moved to Las Vegas, so Agent G will be dealing with their over-zealous customers!
Pete J. Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Danno,The only problem with Slater's 50/50 is that they are growing. The restaurant they are opening near me is either their fifth or sixth.
High octane Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Weather around here is gettin' better and looks like I'll be runnin' da gas out of the Toro this weekend and put it away. Also need to clean and seal my deck, or get someone to do it before I put out he deck furniture, garden hose, etc. Of course I'll be hosing off the salt on the garage floor as well. Guess I can make up a good list of things to do in the next couple of weeks. I'll still will be working on my models though and hoping to get something finished soon. Do is it goodbye snow, or good riddance? It'll be back, I can guarantee that.
Joe Handley Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 I'd say good riddence, sick of that white c.r.a.p still even though it's now all gone here!
Harry P. Posted April 8, 2014 Author Posted April 8, 2014 Of course I'll be hosing off the salt on the garage floor as well.... There's so much salt on my garage floor, I could use a shovel instead of a broom to get it out!
Joe Handley Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Should have seen our floor at work Harry, during the winter we had to mop that floor every night so it looked like from c.r.a.p to so-so for when we opened the next morning. Sometimes it took hours to get it to that point!
Craig Irwin Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 We are finally getting some decent high temps later this week, but the morning lows are still near freezing. At least the white stuff is not in the forecast anymore.
High octane Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 You're right about the amount of salt on the garage floor Harry. Over the winter I have swept it out at least three times and had at least enough to fill a table salt box each time.
Tom Geiger Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 We are finally getting some decent high temps later this week, It's warm and sunny here in Eastern PA. I spent an hour out in the yard picking up sticks and filled two garbage pails. And I didn't even make a dent! Warm enough out that Ted came out with me and laid down on the deck in the sun. Thermometer reads 67* right now. Life is good!
cobraman Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 You guys deserve some nice weather after that beating you took this past winter.
Rob Hall Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Supposed to get to 99 tomorrow. Turned on my house A/C for the first time this season.

Craig Irwin Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 (edited) Thermometer reads 67* right now. Life is good! It was 35 this morning, and never made 50. No it's not. Edited April 9, 2014 by Craig Irwin
Harry P. Posted April 9, 2014 Author Posted April 9, 2014 62 here today, and sunny... supposed to get to 66 tomorrow. Is this it? Is winter really finally over?
High octane Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 I think so Harry, and even though I got a couple things done today, I shoulda cleaned the deck so I can seal it. I did get to work on my models some though. Almost time for you to pull out that Impala out of the garage Harry. 396?
Harry P. Posted April 10, 2014 Author Posted April 10, 2014 Almost time for you to pull out that Impala out of the garage Harry. 396? No, 327.

madhorseman Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Today was the second warmest day of the year so far in Chicago!! And wouldn't ya know it....chance of snow on Monday.
High octane Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Roy, there's also a chance that I'll win the lottery also. Saturday will be a nice day and I'm hopin' to see some of you at the Milwaukee NNL. Last year we had 900+ models on the tables and two builders from Winnipeg will be returning for the third time to enjoy the show as well.
Belugawrx Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Today was the second warmest day of the year so far in Chicago!! And wouldn't ya know it....chance of snow on Monday. Same here bro
Harry P. Posted April 10, 2014 Author Posted April 10, 2014 Today was the second warmest day of the year so far in Chicago!! And wouldn't ya know it....chance of snow on Monday. Yep... upper 60s Friday, 70s on Saturday... chance of snow on Monday. Only in the midwest...
mikemodeler Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Yep... upper 60s Friday, 70s on Saturday... chance of snow on Monday. Only in the midwest... And yet my friends from Northern Illinois continue to ask me, after living in NC for 9 years, "Do you think you'll move back?" Heck No! It is going to be in the upper 70s the next couple of days before "cooling off" to 70 early next week. I have a couple of bodies to paint this weekend and between mowing grass and planting some flowers, I will be sure to do just that!
