My GF has thrown down the gauntlet and challenged me to find a way to make $9k in 8 weeks. I'm looking for creative, plausible ideas that are attainable, legal, low risk, family friendly and doesn't require advanced professional career training/experience.

The back story is once or twice a year she makes about 9-grand in 8 weeks but it's very disruptive to the household and batters the relationship. She needs the money, but said if I could find a way to do the same, she'd quit her project.

Since this is purely brainstorming, I welcome any zany concept because any creative thought can inspire a tangent idea. If it was you blathering with a friend over beers, what idea or combination of ideas would you consider?

First of all, tell us how she does it.

Ditto, then do what she does.

Over a grand a week for 8 weeks ? Good luck. Have anything valuble you can sell ? I don't mean liver or kidney. Extra car ? Motorcycle ? Firearms ? Me thinks your fighting an uphill battle. Let us know if you make it and how. I think we all could use an extra 9 grand.

Umm.......no offense intended, but look at this statement. Really look at it.

She needs the money, but said if I could find a way to do the same, she'd quit her project.

Let me translate.

"If you can find a way to work more and make this extra money, do it so I don't have to."

Mike, with respect. Endure the hardship, weather the strain, let her do her thing. We all work hard for our money. I'm guessing we don't have many millionaires here. Don't let her projects force more work on you. All that will do is lead to resentment which is going to strain the relationship anyway.

My $.02.

I already am, which is what creates the problem, I'm part of it. Out of respect I won't get into details, but her degree is animal science and the stressor would be equivalent to something like, say, constant care livestock in the house.

I think this is where you write a book and tell people "How to make $9000.00 in 8 weeks" and then sell the book. ;)

This actually occurred to me. Love it.

You're in ND? Head on out to the oil patch. Work an 8 week stretch and I bet you'll make more than $9000.

Way ahead of you there, but I'm on a pretty short leash on the wrong side of the state.

...let her do her thing. ... Don't let her projects force more work on you. All that will do is lead to resentment which is going to strain the relationship anyway.

My $.02.

Which is exactly what's happening. No worries about the relationship, we're in it for life. But there'd be less bile if we didn't have to go through this every year.

If we knew the answer to that we'd all be doing it!

My theory is some people are doing it, but it's not sustainable. So not really viable income but a nice shot in the arm.

Does anyone think intense up-trading could result in a $9G gain in 8 weeks?

$9,000 in 8 weeks? Well, without knowing your current situation and the employment situation in North Dakota - get two jobs and work full time at both of them. 7 days a week including evenings. That's an average of $14 per hour for 80 hours a week for 8 weeks. Not that much of a stretch. My wife and I both have stretches that exceed that through the year. For awhile, my wife was working 35 hours at one job and 3 12 hour shifts on friday-sunday. During the months of June-October, I work 7 days a week (with required R and R days) - sometimes upto 16 hours a day. In both situations, we make over $9,000 in 8 weeks. You don't need to find magic, easy ways to do it if you can find work.

On a typical contract gig before taxes I've normally taken home $10k-15k per month for 40 hrs a week, but my stuff is pretty specialized and requires a lot of computer skills.

Erik you need to head 12hrs east. Do you realize the median income in the new oil patch is $95,000? You gotta work long hard weeks but if you already work those hours it might pay off for you. There's such a demand, employers wait at the train station for people to arrive. Of course, the cost of living is criminal but still worthwhile.

For this exercise a second job consideration is on the plate, but the 'GF challenge' requires that I not be away day and night. So a second job (for only 8 weeks) is possible but it would need to be done mostly from home. Thoughts?

I know some guys who moved over. Halliburton even had recruiting events here in Spokane.

I like my job here - and that $14 was the minimum to make $9000. Both my wife and I are happy and above that minimum.

At $95000, that's almost $8000 a month. So another $1000 and...

From home, a little more difficult. Medical billing?

I say just settle for being Mr. what ever her name is. Sounds like you married into the money. Put your pride aside and be happy. More model time, just be prepared to have her dinner ready when she gets home. Wait....I'm describing my life.....nevermind.
