kennb Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 (edited) I got this 1/16 scale glue bomb on e-bay with the intent of making a few minor changes......This is a sneak peek of what I am planning to do with it.. Edited December 21, 2013 by kennb
kennb Posted December 22, 2013 Author Posted December 22, 2013 Thin coat of primer and photos show off the places that need to be reworked, filled, or totally redone. The trim needs some attention to be better on this side. I also started work on the chassis and cut out a lot of garbage that was for the race car. The pans still need to be cut out and replaced. The rest of the chassis is close and just needs some reworking. In the first photo you can see the cast engines for this in the background. They are taken from a Pontiac Firebird> I will also be casting the engine used in the race car later on.This same block could be used on a Buick Grand National, the Olds 442, and the Chevy SS( I have a Corvette casting for the SS already)
kennb Posted December 24, 2013 Author Posted December 24, 2013 more clean up on the body and a thing coat of primer,,,,getting closer. rear end coil springs are getting installed. the rear end coil mounts roughed in,,,,needs a lot of clean up and finishing The drive shaft has been repaired and the new motor casting fitting into place. The motor is a Firebird. The racing engine will be cast later. It has better valve covers for this project. Neither has a decent intake so that will have to be made up. I will be working up bumper and grills for a Monte Carlo, Buick Grand National and an Olds 442. The rear lights, hood and deck lids will be done accordingly
Kennyboy Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 VERY cool idea Kenn!! I am sure there are many that would like to build a 1/16 scale version of any of those cars! Great job so far!!
kennb Posted January 1, 2014 Author Posted January 1, 2014 Have worked on the chassis some to get it closer to stock version......Have the rear wheel wells fabricated with some molds I made up.
Armornv Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Ok I see WHAT you did for the wheel wells but.... how in the ....? Did you just let the candle heat up the jar and set it on the plastic or?? I'd be really interested to how that all works. I also really seeing the builds that go from race car back to street car. It seems to be the opposite of the norm. I'll be watching for sure.
kennb Posted January 1, 2014 Author Posted January 1, 2014 the plastic was heated over a candle until is saged and then with the male mold, the glass, it is pushed into the female mold.
kennb Posted January 3, 2014 Author Posted January 3, 2014 Today I cut out the racing floor pans and made some that are closer to stock....makes a huge difference Since there is going to be carpeting I did not get excited about the tops side. A little was done on the bottom. After a little more sanding and paint it will look just fine. I used a floor pan repop for the details. They are close.
stump Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 I'm loving the direction you have chosen with this Ken, GREAT work so far, and will be quite unique when you get her done.
kennb Posted January 6, 2014 Author Posted January 6, 2014 (edited) This is the start to the Buick body. I have decided it is easier to build an entirely new body than try to rework the Pontiac casting....I would love to have them printed and casting from the print but the creation of the 3D is beyond me,,,,,,,, This series is going to be done sometime in September or October... Mr.1/16th Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Wicked Scratch Building !!! i started doing this a while ago but lost interest and its still in the back burner. Build it Man!!! love it!!
Tony T Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Do I see kit parts in there? Just kidding, Kenn...looks good to me so far!!
kennb Posted February 7, 2014 Author Posted February 7, 2014 Back to some work on this one....I did some work on the rear end and texture coated that. The chassis is coming along.......it is ready for final assembly and suspension parts installed.
kennb Posted February 8, 2014 Author Posted February 8, 2014 took some time to trim out the opening yesterday. Trying to get more done on this today. It is starting to look like something now and the roof has stabilized nicely. It is going to require a little filler in a few places. I don't really like using fillers but sometimes there is no other way.
kennb Posted February 15, 2014 Author Posted February 15, 2014 I have finished the rough out on the front of the Buick.....the grill is just faked in to see if the size is close and to get the basic shape. I will get to the back bumper this next week. This is slow going since I am working on 5 builds right now. Yes they are all scratch builds. I have the Chevelle ready for initial color coat. I have a 34 that I have been working on along with the 66 T-bird as well as the Pontiac Grand Prix. More on those later or you can go to my FB page.
