rmvw guy Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 I saved my pennies and I saved my dimes, while delivering a paper route four years from the time I was 12, and this is what I wound up with in my Junior and Senior years of High School, October of 1966 thru 1968. I found it a little difficult to make the conversion from the Z-16 kit. Wish I had the photo etch kit with emblems, maybe later. Mine was the 327 300 HP version with 4 speed. I lost count of the speeding tickets. lol I enjoy building past rides. This was my second car after the short lived '55 Chevy I rebuilt when I was 15. Hope you enjoy and as always, thanks for looking.

PappyD340 Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Very NICE ride Ron, the first car I drove to High School was a 64 Buick Electra 225 yes I had a freaking yacht, then my junior and senior years I toned it down a bit with a red 66 mustang.
slusher Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Very sharp build Ron. That is a cool car to have as a teen. I had a 80 dodge truck with a slant 6...
Tom Geiger Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Nice. Beats the '68 Valiant I had. Hey watch that! I had a '66 Valiant in high school!
rmvw guy Posted January 15, 2014 Author Posted January 15, 2014 Thanks for the great comments and sharing some of your own stories. I assure you I would not have owned a car in High School if my Dad would have still been alive, he made that very clear when he asked me what I was going to do with my paper route money. My mom was pretty easy to convince after his tragic passing in 1965. I missed a lot by having a car, looking backword. I had to work 4 hrs. a night and on week ends flipping burgers to pay for gas and insurance. Missed out on a lot of after school fun. Plus the traffic school I had to attend, traffic fines and other misbehavior. Should have listened to my Dad. It was fun building the model, my next ride will be a 1967 VW Beetle I got after High Scool, stay tuned.
charlie8575 Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 What a nice build, Ron. I like Danube Blue on those. Charlie Larkin
Helix Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Nice build Ron, I rode my pushbike to school ! Didn't get my first car until I joined the Army....
'70 Grande Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Excellent build and story! I'll be looking forward to your next build as my first car back in high school was a '68 VW bug!
TooOld Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Great looking model Ron ! I bet it was a blast to drive ! Isn't it fun replicating your old car in scale ?
donb Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Great work Ron. I am doing the same type of thing. Buidling cars that I owned over the years (when I can find them). Nice build.
disabled modeler Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Very cool... I love building replicas of passed family rides myself.
tubbs Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 super build, love the engine detail. just enough. I drove a 1975 maverick, powder blue with a 6 cylinder....... yea buddy, what a chick magnet!
rmvw guy Posted January 15, 2014 Author Posted January 15, 2014 super build, love the engine detail. just enough. I drove a 1975 maverick, powder blue with a 6 cylinder....... yea buddy, what a chick magnet! To tell the truth my Chevelle wasn't much of a "chick magnet" for me either. I only had one girlfriend in High School and I gave up on her. She was out having all the fun while I was working after school to pay for things. Life lessons. Things got better for me after I got my VW Beetle. Thanks for the continued stories from everyone else also.
bbowser Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 I love it. You get to enjoy the hobby and relive some memories at the same time! Nice work.
