Randy Kern Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 This is the Tamiya Lotus Europa Special kit. A friend had one of these after graduating high school, and I remember it as one of the coolest, lowest sports cars around! It wasn't very reliable, though . The paint is Tamiya Metallic Green, and the interior is Tamiya Flat Tan. A great kit out of the box, I only added engine wiring and carpet. Thanks for looking!
GeeBee Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 Stunning ! lovely build ..... what colour is that ?
dub Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 Great job, Randy! For those who have never seen one of these 1:1 cars, they are incredibly low. Their footprint isn't much bigger than an old Mini and about half as high! One of the weirdest sights in traffic today. I've never seen the engine "room" on one of these and from the model, I wish I had. Yours looks fantastic. I love the interior too. Boy, you sure are turning out a lot of high quality builds lately. I quit on trying to keep up!
Randy Kern Posted December 9, 2007 Author Posted December 9, 2007 Geoff, the color is Tamiya Metallic Green, from the can, cleared with Dupli-Color and polished. Hey Jonathan, I had the whole Thanksgiving week off, so I was able to get some good building time in! The only thing I would have added to the kit, is if I can find a set of the Fujimi Panasports. Minilite type wheels always look killer on sports cars!
ismaelg Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 Very cool! That's a neat little car. A few months ago I was talking to a guy that restored one and I asked "How do you get in there?" His answer was "Getting in is not that bad. Trying to get out is the real challenge" He said it is so small he can't drive with regular shoes, as the pedals are so close together he needs to drive with special shoes. Thanks,
935k3 Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 Great job on a cool car. Make sure to bring that to the next CPMCC club meet.
robertw Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Sharp. I picked up this kit on my last online model order. Seeing yours makes me want to put other projects aside and pull it out of the closet. robw
MonoPed Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Neat build!! That's first one I've seen completed, and ya did a nice job in it!
jbwelda Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 really nice job! that looks like a perfect stance and great build quality! i would like to dig out my tamiya lotus 47 (europa) and also the lotus 25 and start in on a lotus run.
ZIL 111V Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Beautiful, nice color, this Tamiya kit is surely a real gem, easy to assemble & fantastic looking. .....Wish my 1/12 Nichimo Europa (I got started in '97!) in my stack was as nice in the assembly fitting!!!
monkeyclaw Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Great model of a great car! Like the mini's...what they lacked in power ; they made up in handling....I have the nichimo 12th scale car to build over the winter....I hope it builds up as nice as that..................great work.........matt
mikelo Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Wow, I haven't seen one of those in a long time. That turned out great. Great finish. I believe that is the first one I have ever seen finished. Great job!
Zoom Zoom Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Nice work! It's a great kit, I bought one build from a very well-known builder (phantom race support vehicle), and it's really cool. I like your color scheme too. Not sure how I'll finish mine, whenever the time comes.
MrObsessive Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Cool looking model Randy! Yes, you're absolutely right about the lowness of the 1:1! About 10 years ago there was one that sat in a local car dealer for what seemed like forever. I got nosy one day and tried to see if I could get in..............................I did but barely!! Then there was the embarassment of trying to get out! I can just hear the theme music of "The Avengers" just looking at your car.....................you remember that show with Patrick McNee and Diana Rigg?
cruz Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Great job Randy but remember, those japanese kits are quite "vicy" It is going to look very nice next to your gorgeuos Miura you just did Make sure to bring them both to our next meeting at CPMCC
Raul_Perez Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Very nice and clean, Randy!! The BMF work looks excellent...nice and crisp... I remember seeing one of those several years ago. They are so incredibly small... Keep up the good work and the posts!! Regards,
jbwelda Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 wasnt the avengers the one with john steed and emma peel? she drove an elan i believe.
MrObsessive Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 wasnt the avengers the one with john steed and emma peel? she drove an elan i believe. That's right! I remember a couple episodes where John Steed drove a Europa..........put it up on two wheels IIRC!
GeeBee Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 That's right! I remember a couple episodes where John Steed drove a Europa..........put it up on two wheels IIRC! Yes there was a red Lotus Europa in the "Avengers", it belonged to Tara King, who replaced Emma Peel, who did drive the Blue Lotus Elan.
Crazy Ed Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 Randbugeye Very Clean build and I like the choice of Color. Hum I think I'm going toget me one of these. I got to drive one in '70 from Redwood City to San Gregorio Beach. Had two complaints, 1. it didn't have a "Gurney" bump (I'm 5' 16" tall ) and 2. there were 3 sections of Woodside/La Honda Road that had Radar Police. It was a true shame to have to slow down as the Lotus didn't have much torque so it needed room to really get going again. Crazy Ed
Rob Hall Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 Wow...that is neat..brings back memories. When I was around 8-9, a neighbor had one, dark blue. I remember going for a ride in it once...car sat very low.

If you're looking for one of these check out www.modelexpress.net Dennis had them on sale for practically next to nothing last month. robw
