booboo60 Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 hello all, well my Bare Metal foil has lost the sticky to it, and No didn't use the frig, only recently read about storing them, so with that said,,lol any tips on reviving them? or am I screwed,,lol
Erik Smith Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 I would just buy another sheet... I don't think I've ever had any BMF go bad - is it a humidity thing orrrr what?
mrmike Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Get some of this- http://www.microscale.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=MI-8&Category_Code=FINPROD&Product_Count=7 It's cheaper than a new sheet of foil, especially if the foil itself is still in good condition.
lordairgtar Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 I've never stored BMF in the fridge. I never had an issue with it and my sheets are from 10 to 5 years old.
Deathgoblin Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 I haven't had any problems yet. My sheets generally sit out for months at a time before they're used up. Never had one not stick yet.
Jeff Johnston Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I've has chrome BMF go bad but not sticky bad. I have had it kind of fall apart and not cut in strips. However for the last 3-4 years since they came out with the new and improved, I've never had an issue.
Alger1x Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 I am a 1st time user of BMF I have been looking around and I saw a guy that did a youtube video using just regular household foil with some elmers glue any hope to this working ? I could see it being a ton cheaper got a roll of 25ft for a buck and BMF is like 8 bucks for one sheet not trying to be a cheapo but you could save a lot of money but question im getting at is do you think it will work and be effective it showed in the video it works but for all you guys that been around this stuff for years wanna hear your opinions.
oldnslow Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Yeah, I saw the video too and plan on giving it a try. The problem I have with my BMF is the adhesive, when I pull the trimmed pieces off they leave their adhesive on the body and it's a pain to get off. Using white glue and tin foil, the glue comes off with water. It might take a little longer but is so much easier to clean up. Robert
Ramfins59 Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Wouldn't the tin foil look a little "lumpy" with Elmer's glue under it. I realize you would do the best you could to smooth it out properly, but still.... I realize and understand the stated cost issues, but personally, I'd stick with BMF.
Alger1x Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 I was wondering about that also but if you use a very thin coat of glue I think it would be ok about to try it ill post some results gonna try it on a old body first and see what it does
mnwildpunk Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 If you use the tin foil I would do what harry p. Suggested and that is use clear to adhere it to the model

It all depends on the results you hope to achieve. If you want to build great models, don't scrimp on supplies. A sheet of BMF will give you 2-4 cars. That $2 to $4 a car for perfect chrome. It's way worth it to me!
