After months of slump I finally finished something. I started by chopping up a 1940 cab and bed and adding a scratchbuilt chassis. The engine and suspension parts came from the 1940 street rod kit. I also scratchbuilt the floor, console, bomber seats and beehive filter. I really like how the weld seams came out on the bed and would have done them on the cab as well but I wanted to finish it up in time for a show last weekend so I went with a welded, ground and rusting again look.

Thank you for the kind words everyone!

That is spectacular in every way! I love it!

It looks like it could have come straight out of the Lab-RAT-ory... :D

The good Doctor was definitely a strong influence here. Without the RR&R book I would still be laboring away with polish instead of a stiff brush.

Very nice work! I like the weld beads on the bed. How did you build those up?

Thanks, K

I'm flattered you noticed. I placed 2 strips of painters tape side by side, leaving a gap for the bead between and then "swept" bondo into the gap with a chisel type xacto blade. (it doesn't have to be perfect) then I removed the tape and while the bondo was still soft I used a sharply curved scalpel blade (lots of things you could use here) and pushed it into the bondo at an angle to make the ridges.

Outstanding work!! How'd you do at the show?

Thank you, I managed a 1st place in a group with some pretty nice builds so I guess I did something right.

Yep, I have to agree with the other guys... This is really outstanding build. I like seeing these Late '30s or Early '40s Pickups built as Hot Rods, and this body has excellent proportions like Andy said above. Nice detailing, too, and great weathering.
