ratnasty Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Here is what I got from Shapeways today , a 1/25th scale printed pro mod chassis , its cool. 1 for the 68 Camaro and for the 69 Camaro .
ratnasty Posted April 3, 2014 Author Posted April 3, 2014 not bad a coat of filler primer and a light sand should take care of it and they were 25.75 each
TooOld Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Wow , extremely nice looking ! Now I'm getting all kinds of ideas !
Dave Van Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 The 'artwork' you created for this is alone fantastic......
Jantrix Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 not bad a coat of filler primer and a light sand should take care of it and they were 25.75 each I think the work avoided in scratchbuilding a chassis is alone worth $25.75. Very cool.
TooOld Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 I think the work avoided in scratchbuilding a chassis is alone worth $25.75. Very cool. My thoughts exactly !
BKcustoms Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 (edited) Very cool! I'm definitely buying one along with the 68' Camaro body. do these work with the dirtmodeler suspension/motor plate parts? Edited April 3, 2014 by BKcustoms
Ace-Garageguy Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 (edited) I think the work avoided in scratchbuilding a chassis is alone worth $25.75. Very cool. Plus, they should be absolutely symmetrical, which is time consuming to get right in brass or styrene. All the joints should be pretty too. Definitely worth the price. Do you own the artwork, or are these available Shapeways-direct? Edited April 3, 2014 by Ace-Garageguy
Chief Joseph Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 These are TDR Innovations pieces and they are available in other scales, too. They have lots of really nice pieces in their Shapeways store.
mikemodeler Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 not bad a coat of filler primer and a light sand should take care of it and they were 25.75 each I figure that there is probably close to half that cost in the plastic tubing if you were to scratch build your own, not to mention the time involved and having a jig to keep everything square. I think this is a perfect example where the 3D printing fits into our hobby.
ratnasty Posted April 4, 2014 Author Posted April 4, 2014 I haven't tried the Dirt modeler stuff to it yet , these are on Shapeways pages and they offer them in other scales . I just found them 1 night and said what the heck I give them a look and they are cool Chuck
ratnasty Posted April 4, 2014 Author Posted April 4, 2014 here are some pics with the back half of the body sitting on the chassis
bobthehobbyguy Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Nice stuff. Shows what can be done with with 3D printing.
blackbeard Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 I have a 1/16 scale chassis that I updated a few bars to fit my seat and yes the dirt modeler parts will fit the chassis
impcon Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 I am surprised at the price!! I am not into drag cars but I'll have a look and see what else is available from Shapeways. As has been said, it's more cost and time efficient than building the cage yourself from scratch.
Lownslow Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Ive had this in my cart for the longest time but ive yet to get one as racecars isnt my thing but would look sick as a post apocalyptic monster. Only chassie i did was the chezoom replica ive been working on a sand rail frame for some time.
DaytonaTim Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Hey Chuck: Be sure and look at the video on our website on how to finish out this material. I say this because using the superglue method on these frames will help with strength. Here is a link to the page https://sites.google.com/site/tdrhtmllearn/home/tdr-innovations-help-page/shapeways-wsf-material-info Chassis really are one of the best areas for 3D printing. Chassis are tough to make by hand and very tough or impossible for manufacturers to injection mold. For 3D printing though it is just another part. Keep an eye out as we intend to expand into this area of modeling. Tim TDRinnovations.com
